Anyone on Pluvicto (Lu 177), a new drug for prostate cancer?

Posted by dedehans @dedehans, Aug 20, 2022

My close friend has had Pluvecto treatment suggested to him by oncologists. It is relatively new, having been approved by the FDA in March 2022. Have any of you been given this drug? I have read it is radioactive material and patient needs to stay away 6 ft from others for at least 3 days so as not to contaminate them. He has not yet decided whether to take the treatment or not as he is feeling awful enough as is.

Welcome @ncoic I look forward to your updates on how things go with Pluvicto. What other treatments have you had?

After all that how are you doing currently. I think I am heading on a similar track. IMRT, ADT, ABIRATERONE. 1 year in. Psa approaching undetectable. I'm not banking on it staying there.
Thanks

I would think your rise in PSA to 4.2 would merit a PSMA PET/CT Scan.
What a journey you have been on. Thanks for giving me a heads up on what my future may be. Best of outcomes for you.

In late 2021 I halted all further treatments. No more radiation no more cryo surgery, etc. My Doc said to wait until Lutetium was approved and we would go that route. So, next week I begin Pluvicto. Will run every six weeks until the end of may. Then 6 more weeks for final consultation. I admit I am deeply concerned about how I will react to this radical treatment.

Thanks for the reply
I hope you were able to enjoy the few months of freedom from medication.
I watched a presentation from " PROSTATE CANCER RESEARCH INSTITUTE (PCRI)" about this fantastic treatment. It was part of the 2022 Fall Conference from a few weeks ago. I am pretty sure it's on day 2. The most concerning side effect was dry mouth.
Best of luck going forward

I’m on my second recurrence for prostate cancer. My PSA is at 0.63. Has anyone out there have that new treatment of Radiopharmacuticles ? It’s an injection of liquid radiation that targets just the cancer cells. I was just wondering of the results and where to have it done. Thank you Stephen.

@firespooks, I moved your post to this existing discussion about new 177Lu-PSMA-617 radiopharmaceutical here:
- Anyone on Pluvicto (Lu 177), a new drug for prostate cancer? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/any-one-on-pluvecto-a-relatively-new-drug/

Since being approved in March 2022, the treatment has been named Pluvicto (lutetium Lu 177 vipivotide tetraxetan) (formerly referred to as 177Lu-PSMA-617).

I have been going with my cousin to Pluvicto treatments. Apparently he is one of the first in South Carolina to get treatment. He had his 3rd treatment yesterday (11/3/22) and will be given a maximum of 6. His blood counts are holding up well so far. The blood counts are used to determine if he can move forward to further treatments. He is responding to the treatment. His PSA was at 1365 in mid August (high point before treatment) but has now dropped to 304 after the first 2 treatments. He had some pronounced side effects after the first treatment of being very tired and some confusion but only mild side effects after the 2nd treatment. He is feeling stronger and is walking and doing light exercise now.
