Anyone else gone gluten and dairy free to help improve symptoms
Hi,
It has been suggested to me and i have talked to people who havegone gluten and dairy free that has helped their symptoms. justlooking for anyone here who has and interested if it has made a difference? if it has could you share some menu's or give me some ideas? and how long did it take for you to see improvement? i have some general ideas on what to buy but looking for more before i head out. its been suggested to me because i have hypothyroidism which until recently has been out of whack, hyperplasia with possibilityof autoimmune gastritis, possible sjorgens syndrome and maybe lichen sclorus. im waiting on specialists to confirm but i have to wait for appointments which is so hard. its kind of like starting fresh. in 15 months of being sick i have gotten little help so im traveling 3 hours to boston where i can get better help its just hard waiting for these appointments.i am seeing a naturpath dr in a few weeks never been to one so not sure what to expect but i think he is better than who previously i have seen. sorry to ramble just hoping someone here relates tome and can help me out. thank you!

I have been gluten free for many years. After ingesting gluten I used to have muscle aches, especially in my shoulders, and felt achy. A doctor did not diagnose me, I figured it out myself.
Lactose in dairy products upset my stomach, and eliminating food with lactose was a clear need. I can tolerate lactose-free yogurt.
I am experiencing a lot of ankle discomfort and tingling in my feet legs and finger tips will this get better with time or I is it going to worsen.?Also the upper leg weakness seems to be getting worse. Any thoughts? Just coming off 12 days of steroids for a terrible systemic contact dermatitis.
I have Hashimoto’s and Sjogren’s syndrome and I’ve had stomach problems off anon. Maybe irritable bowel syndrome. What are the symptoms of autoimmune gastritis? I had a large intestinal block two years ago and had surgery with a eight day stay in the hospital. I have a very large scar on my abdomen about eight or 9 inches. Surgery was in August 2020. Heights of Covid. Thx. Barb
The number one diet change that helped me is going oil-free and low-fat. Dairy is high in animal fat and I had already cut out dairy due to the animal protein. I am following low-fat whole food plant-based with no: oil, sugar or salt. Check into the many sources that explain why no salt. The no sugar aspect means processed sugar, its okay to have the sugars in fruits, maple syrup, dates and what is naturally occurring in vegetables. I have not 100% changed over to all of the protocol but am mostly there. Good luck!
Google Mark Hyman. He is a functional Medicine Doctor and has great videos on self care, diet and exercise.
Hi Barb,
wow sounds like you have been through alot. im really sorry i see rheumotologist right before thanksgiving about sjorgens and now i suspect fibromyalgia. boy that is painful. but i have hypothyroidism too. mine no prob for almost 20 yrs then after gallbladder came out thyroid went haywire. i am on a med for tarchacardia which happened after thyroid went crazy. last thyroid test in august was normal but if i dont take my med for tarch my heart goes crazy. all this is hard to deal with. but autoimmune gastritis i was shocked. i thought for a long time i had gastroparisis i was sure. but endoscope said hyperplasia with possibility of autimmune gastritis. this GI never did the antibody bloodwork to confirm. i just saw a naturpath last fri who ordered all the bloodwork i should have had. im getting those done this week so im anxious to see where my levels fall. as far as my sysptoms not really stomach pain it basicly started with severe constipation, i had a ctscan in ER when i was first sick that showed inflammation in my stomach. but they blew it off. my gallbladder had to come out at the same time so its hard to defer between the two but i couldnt really eat much still cant. in 15-16 months i have lost about 40 pounds. now eating gluten and dairy free. occasionally i had burning in my stomach thats it. just got full real fast. i can eat very little and it feels like i just had thanksgiving dinner. its weird i used to be a very hearty eater not anymore and i try to be careful i think about whats good for my inflammed stomach. but constipation is improved than what it was. of course only been gluten and dairy free for 2 weeks so its like a detox. hope that helps write to me anytime. Eileen
Hi Eileen. I went dairy free and no animal products (whole food plant-based vegan) years ago for my psoriasis and my skin cleared up by 95%. I occasionally eat sugar for a treat but try not to. I used to have psoriasis on my feet, knees, scalp, elbows and hands but now just occasionally get a bit of roughness on my knuckles and elbows . Best to stay away from a lot of alcohol too but I occasionally have a glass of wine without problems — emphasis on occasionally. I recently had some brisket at a family holiday dinner for old times sake and suffered for two weeks with stomach pain and rashes. Over the years my body has told me what it can handle! I’d like to stop eating gluten because I have been having some stomach issues but haven’t mustered up the willpower yet. I’m 65 and run and weight train — I weigh 125 lbs. at 5’8” and also notice that keeping my weight down (weighed 160 at my highest point) seems to keep the psoriasis flares in check. Triggers: lack of sleep and lack of exercise, stress and too much salt, sugar, alcohol and processed food. Nightshade vegetables do not seem to cause autoimmune flares for me. Eating a lot of greens seems to keep my skin looking good. I have a friend with psoriasis and we compared our regimens and how they helped clear our skin (which is indicative of inflammation inside the body that we can’t see). She is on one of the heavy-duty biologics and we are both cleared up to exactly the same degree — she also gets rough knuckles as her “flare.” I feel that my approach is not only safer but leads to an overall improvement in health and vitality. Hope this helps! Susan

I went to a specialist for OLP (oral lichen planus). Her only advice was to relax more, have more social life, and exercise with people (rather than by myself). She insisted that auto-immune diseases are caused by stress. Has anyone else heard of this kind of thing as a medical prescription?
More likely than not, I was born with autoimmune antibodies that sppressed my immune system. Childood filled with serious infctions startingwith mastoid surgery at 14 months. I remember telling my family Dr. how my stomach felt like it had the feeling of a hole in it that felt like hunger. I was 6 yo. Periods were always blood baths. Many other things also were "off." I contracted Hasimotos with the birth of my first child. My second child had Celiac disease at birth with projectile vomiting that turned a navy blue carpet almst white. He picked up my antibodies, likely throgh the placenta, as I probably did with my mom and acquired my suppressed immune system and tendency to autoimmune reactions. After Moderna 1 vaccine, the Hashis which had been quiet for 20 years came back with a vengeance, alng with old infections and viruses. ANA went through the roof. Now, ANY STRESS AGGRAVATES WHATEVER autoimmune symptoms I am experiencing, but didn't case them. They tendency and diseases pre-existed.
