Leg indentation

Posted by dapangpang @dapangpang, Oct 14, 2022

Hello! Finally I found this website to post a question about my thirteen year old daughter’s leg problem. About a month ago, I noticed the dents in both of her calves. She did not complain about leg pain, cramps, tingling, or anything uncomfortable. Our pediatrician had no idea what has caused it. She asked us to keep monitoring and there is not much to worry about. Actually it did get better last week, but today both me and my daughter noticed that it went worse again. I am worried. Anyone has similar experience? What specialist should I take my daughter to? Any information is appreciated. Thank you!

Hello @dapangpang, Welcome to Connect. I have no medical training or background but I've had similar dents in my leg some time ago that the doctor thought were pitting edema. There is an older discussion on the topic that you might want to read through to see if another member's experience is similar to your daughters.

From the picture the dents, it almost looks like your daughter might have rested the back of her legs on an object or piece of furniture. You mentioned it got better but then got worse again. Does your daughter remember doing anything different in her activities between the time it got better and then worse?

Yes. At first, I also thought it was due to the long rest on a bar or something like that. But it never goes away since it started. She told me what if she drinks more water, the dents seem less obvious the next day. So it could be just dehydration? I will take her to see a dermatologist on Monday. Many thanks!

Hi, @dapangpang This might sound obvious but is it possible it's from some socks she is wearing that are a bit tight at the top? I get marks just like that from socks. Since they are at the exact same place on both legs I would think this could be a possibility.

Thank you! We live in Texas. It is still like summer here. She wears either no show socks to school these days or just flip flops when she is at home. So not socks I guess. Plus there are no such marks on the front or sides of the calves.
