Cannibis use among cancer patients.

Posted by katrina123 @katrina123, Sep 6, 2021

I received an e-mail from our State Health & Science University to ask me to participate in a study about cannabis use among cancer patients. I have never used cannabis so I won't be of much help but I wondered if the use of cannabis is common among cancer patients.

My son is encouraging me to try cannabis products for pain; however I’m on narcotics so don’t think I should mix. It may be an option to ween me off oxy. Any thoughts on this?
I’m 2/3 the way through my chemo treatments as well. Not experiencing much nausea, but still have constant pain from bone metastasis.

I am sorry you are experiencing pain from bone metastasis. I would not take anything without discussing with your oncology care team. I am not sure if you receive care at Mayo Clinic, but at Mayo Clinic there is an Integrative Oncology team that can be ordered by the oncology care team to help people with cancer feel better by reducing the fatigue, nausea, pain and anxiety and other symptoms that come with cancer and cancer treatment. Have you ever heard of Integrative Oncology before?

I was inpatient at Mayo and received some similar services through the palliative care team.
I currently can’t walk, (wheelchair bound) so can’t do much exercise pending completion of Chemo and then hip stabilization surgery.
I’m coping fairly well with chemo, no nausea and fatigue is better. Just dealing with hip pain. I’ll keep Integrated Oncology in mind.
