@rickmarge11, I can understand that you're concerned and somewhat dismayed at the lack of information you received when told you had HPV related warts.

The good news is that the types of HPV that can cause genital warts are not the same as the types that can cause cancer. I'm glad that you are being referred to a dermatologist to discuss next steps. Often genital warts go away on their own and don't require treatment. The link above also offer tips to help you prepare for your appointment and questions you may wish to ask the dermatologist.

Can I get cancer from it

I had HPV once but doctor did cauterization inside my cervix. It was painful too. He said the same thing about wants. I wonder why I didn't get sent to dermatologist. He said he had to cauterize it.
