Third Booster and CKD

I am at Stage 3b with a GFR of 37, and unsure whether getting the third Covid booster is necessary. I don’t really consider myself in the Imuno compromised group. Any thoughts or insight would be most appreciated.

From what I read from the Nstional Kidney Foundation and other sites, you are at far greater risk should you contact Covid by not taking the shot. Nearly a month ago, I had my 3rd Covid booster and flu shot as I too am in Stage 3B. Make sure if you get both shots at the same time that the tech give each in either arm, but not together in the same arm as you need better distribution of each serum. For me, there was hardly any pain in either arm this time around.

From what I read from the Nstional Kidney Foundation and other sites, you are at far greater risk should you contact Covid by not taking the shot. Nearly a month ago, I had my 3rd Covid booster and flu shot as I too am in Stage 3B. Make sure if you get both shots at the same time that the tech give each in either arm, but not together in the same arm as you need better distribution of each serum. For me, there was hardly any pain in either arm this time around.

I had to have both flu and covid shots in the right arm as I'd had a tetanus shot in the left arm the week before. I hope that doesn't reduce efficacy - pharmacist didn't recommend coming back at another time. I haven't gotten any reaction to the covid shots other than a mildly sore arm; my husband, however, has had a minor temperature and feeling of malaise after the last two boosters - which we feel is a minor inconvenience for the extra protection.

I had to have both flu and covid shots in the right arm as I'd had a tetanus shot in the left arm the week before. @ldrlaw I agree that those with any chronic disease have a greater risk of a more intense illness of any sort, from flu to pneumonia to Covid, anything!

Here is what I have had, and please understand that while I live with end stage renal disease [now on dialysis] and active blood cancer treatment with chemo, it has been the advice of both oncologist and nephrologist together. Four total regular Covid shots [Pfizer], 1 of the new bivalent Covid [Pfizer], plus two of Evusheld. I think I am as protected as I can be. Beyond that, is the annual flu shot [still need to get this year's dose!] Is is overkill? For some, perhaps. As @collegeprof mentioned, those of us with compromised immune systems run a risk of severe reaction to any infection.

I find it interesting to read about how close you have had your vaccinations together, even on the same day! That is something I steered away from, to not overload my systems. Have you had any localized or systemic reactions? I had bivalent Covid vaccination on 9/27, then a Hep B #1 on 10/3, and will source out flu shot this week.

One of the reasons drugs are expensive is that the FDA requires the manufactures to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on testing to get a new product on the market. And yet these vaccines popped up overnight. I got the pair of Modernas and one booster, but now that we know we were misled about the efficacy of masking and social distancing and the abuse of our children, I am very hesitant to take another jab.

At stage 3b you are immunocompromised. Recommendation is to take the third booster four months after the last booster. I am also stage 3b, my nephrologist recommended what I just stated.

Yes, I did, early on. No antibodies, but again, that was early in the game.
