Replies to "Hi sue since having my second tkr on the same knee I have not been able..."
I did have shots in my hips - before the first surgeries, which were of minimal help due to deterioration. Since the revisions, I was diagnosed with bursitis and had injections again. They worked each time to calm the inflammation. Now I have learned a series of stretches to keep things better aligned and moving smoothly, and have thus avoided another flare. Now we are doing the same with my knee - trying to prolong the time before I need it replaced, but I will not hesitate once injections no longer work.
By the way, my ortho uses very small doses of steroids when he does the injections to limit the danger of bone thinning. He says if a little doesn't do it, more isn't going to work any better. As a result, I am able to have relief as needed in my elbows, shoulders & knees - as often as every 3 months, though I've not needed them that often so far.
