Psoriasis of the scalp...How does one control it.

Posted by Ron and Cilvia @renaldo, Oct 6, 2022

Following a few weeks with a mild strain of Covid 19, I now have psoriasis on my scalp.

The shampoo that was recommended, containing salacytic acid, is not working as the fungus is spreading and itching more and more.

Does anyone out there know how to control this? It is so irritating!

Thank you.

@renaldo - I have the same problem as you do, and would love to know how to control it. Even biologics Skyrizi 150mg. injections have not worked on my scalp, although the rest of my body is clear - except for a dime sized patch on my elbow. That doesn’t itch but my scalp does and it drives me crazy to the point I am tempted to shave my entire head!

Derma smooth occasional treatments are very helpful for me. In Canada you need a PR from your dermatologist or GP. You leave it on your scalp covered by the plastic bonnet & a towel over it for a minimum of 4 hrs. I do the treatment twice a month which is sufficient for me. Good luck!

For scalp itching, which I have battled over the years, I have found that tea tree oil makes a difference. I know tea tree oil is so often recommended that it’s possible to discount it as “snake oil”, but for this one use, I do recommend trying it.

Drop a few drops on the scalp, massage in, and dry and style. My itches go away.
