Sorry meant to say prolonge kidney function and minimize damage

I am sorry to say that I used Farxiga twice, and each time I had problems. One of the side effects of Farxiga is constant urination, especially ar night. So over a short period of time of a few months, my eGFR went from 44 to 32, I am still trying to recover.

There are 2 types of doses, 5mg for diabetics and 10mg for kidney issues. I took 5mg and was assured by my endocrinologist that this would offer good protection to the kidneys. I had one nephrologist who liked the "statistics" that Farxiga offers, and another who would discourage his patients from taking it. I wish I listened to the latter.

I posed this same question earlier this year. As I recall, one person provided a link to show a patient survey of many problems with this drug.

There obviously are some who find this drug worthy and useful to them. I applaud them if it works in the long run.

Lastly, just because a company spends beaucoup of money on TV ads daily does not mean it has the most effective drug. Always do the research first, and especially review the side effects.

I asked our nephrologist about farxiga and he indicated that trials hadn’t been done with our age group so really didn’t recommend it. I’d be interested in hearing more info on this.

Thank you, that is very helpful. My nephrologist prescribed it but I’m very reluctant to take it exactly due to the side effects you indicated.
I read on CDC website that they have no data to prove it helps PKD patients.

For whatever reason, my nephrologist and his PA suggested data existed for Farxiga to protect and lengthen kidney function. As I said before, that may be true of some, but, unfortunately, not me. The adverse side effects were too strong and my lab values declined significantly.

Interestingly, if you do a search of "Farxiga" on this forum, you will find real patients talking more about this subject and offering Internet links to back up their statements. Patients really tell the story.
