What helps manage hyperacusis during dental procedures?

Posted by cudabinacontenda @cudabinacontenda, Sep 4, 2022

I’m about to go to the dentist for the first time since my acoustic trauma. Are earplugs helpful or a bad idea for managing hyperacusis during dental procedures? You’re all so helpful, and I could really benefit from your knowledge, experience and advice. I’m pretty nervous about this.

@bdurel

I've tried ear plugs but that makes the sound coming from inside worse

You need ear plugs that conform to the shape of your ear canal when your mouth is open. I use the foam ones

Would you mind enlighten ing on hear loss and tinnitus. I am finally wearing hearing aid s and have a wonderful specialist who always responds I have extremely small ear canals so even minis dont completely engage and I just learned how to use the basic Phonax app try to use them til night as the tinnitus is much louder without. I am so interested in communicating with others who are older and wearing aides. I could use some support and would like to give some back. I am Carole, single 81 and live in an adult community. No one hear wears aides. Thanks

Carole, I am single, 89 and living alone. My sudden sensorineural loss is helped by first wearing a Phonak cross and recently I was fitted with an Oticon cross which I can manipulated the sound on my IPhone. It works pretty well most of the time. Was $2000 and insurance paid for $500. It’s hard to believe that no one wears aids in your residence. Good luck.

Hi Carole. I am a 75 year old woman with tinnitus and hyperacusis. I was just wondering what a Phonax app is?
