I started Reclast in March 2022 as a transitions away from Prolia.

My experience has been that an oral surgeon won’t attempt any implants while you are on Reclast. There is too much of a risk.

Do you know how long since your last Reclast infusion is it safe to have invasive procedures such as implants ?
I understand that Reclast can remain in your system for 3 to 5 years.
I would really appreciate any guidance about this question.

Also, I would like to know any information about having the roots removed from the two teeth I had that broke off at the gum this year while I was on Reclast. Is this considered an invasive procedure?

I started with an Infusion of Reclast on March of this year (2022) as a transition from Prolia ! My muscle and joint pain where too severe after my second injection of Prolia. I am very interested in any experience and information about Reclast. I am counting on taking it for one year only to protect myself from rebound of stopping Prolia. Has anyone had success following this plan ?

@hip123 I had 2 years of Reclast, waiting for the third. But during that time started to have an implant. I had to wait 5 months before the crown could be attached and then 5months after before I could start Reclast again. Then things got in the way and I never went back for my third infusion. I had no problem with the infusion or side effects. As time went on my Endo doc started me on Tymlos which has no dental restrictions and did fine.

I do not know how invasive the procedure is. But I have roots removed only with novocaine. Then wait for it to heal so the implant can be placed in the jaw, and later the crown attached.

Right now I have at least 4 broken-off teeth with the roots still intact. Waiting to get this fixed but Afib and CHF got in the way. I have a partial waiting to be put in but the Cardo docs have to approve. I am on Eliquis, so that has to stop for a while. But I do have 4 implants that I have had for years, no problem. Do you know how long Reclast remains in your system ? I asked my endo if I could have Tymlos instead of Reclast and she said it would not protect me from the rebound of Prolia. It seems every doctor has a different idea of what is the best treatment. I really want to get off of all of these drugs (Bisphosphonates) ! Stay in touch and share your experiences. thank you !!!!!

@hlp123 May I ask if your teeth breaking is a direct result from taking Reclast? In 2009 or 2010 I had my Reclast infusion. I swore I'd never take it again due to the joint and muscle pain which began the day I had the infusion and continued with other issues. After the year was up I began Prolia & have been on it until now—NO side effects. I dread tomorrow morning, I have to switch from Prolia to Reclast and praying I don't have terrible side effects from it this time. I can tell you this about teeth—while on Prolia I had dental work done throughout the years with no problems until an extraction 2 yrs ago. I wanted an implant but my oral surgeon refused. She said the implant won't hold over time and numerous patients came back with the implant in their hands. My only option was a bridge (upper left) which then required replacement of a bridge on the (lower left). I wish I could stay on Prolia but will keep you informed about Reclast. I am trying to decide if I should continue on taking a yearly infusion of Reclast as a transition drug off of Prolia. I have had one year of Reclast that I received last March 2022. I need to have my shoulders replaced and I need to have invasive dental work done. I need four roots removed so that I can proceed with dentures. I really do not want to take anymore biphosphonates. And I really have a problem with the fact that once I take these drugs they remain with you and really effect what other treatments you can have.
Also, who should make this decision ? My endocrinologist or an orthopedic surgeon ?

I am hoping members such as @giannam @kilh and @goodpeople may rejoin you! Have you told both your endocrinologist and your orthopedic surgeon and asked for their recommendation?

I have been on Prolia for7 to 8 years with no side effects or breaks. I am trying to figure out what the best segue drug is. I took one fosamax and felt I was going to give birth to a large metal cyliner, in other words bad reaction! Looking for ideas and wondering about Evenity or Reclast.

I would appreciate those who have transitioned opinions. I have no problem with dental work. Thanks!
