@stevemanni had hip replacement last November and was told it takes a year to heal from that but that pain is better. The neuropathy pain constantly screams. When I can i elevate my feet and keep ice to numb if pain is intolerable. Asked neurologist for another EMG/NCT to check right leg as its burning too and both feet/legs feel the SFN is spreading upwards.

@stevemann no it was not changed. Before the surgery may right foot has been getting worse and did not shave SFN small fiber neuropathy but had neuropathy. The SFN is much more painful before and was diagnosed by biopsies in both legs and feet.
I had my left hip replaced and while after 4 months its just typically numb but the left foot neuropathy did NOT get worse due to surgery. So dont fear that. That is my experience. Does that help.
I only wear socks when I need to get dressed up. Most of the winter it is sneakers with no socks and the spring summer and fall it is sandals. That’s how I deal with it. I do have 3 kinds of “diabetic” socks but like none of them. I’v actuall cut the toe part of the sock off and sewed them up between the big toe and the next toes to jerk them from bunching up. Seems to help.
I have peripheral neuropathy lower legs, up to about 6" above the ankles. I have found that wearing support hose during the day makes neuropathy-life much better. Sure, there's pressure noticed with them, but to me it's worth it.
Maybe I will have to try those shocks in she what happens. Funny you should mention hip surgery I’m having it next month and not looking forward to it. Always looking to try new things regarding the neuropathy considering I’ve pretty much run out of options up until now. I’ll let you know how it goes.

@johbbishop, and all...Interesting bit of information for you. My son had very bad discomfort, pain, aching, tingling, etc. in both feet and lower legs from neuropathy from an unknown source. Probably involved with his overall diagnosis of cervical dystonia, etc.
I started him using compression socks I found online and other places. They helped but were not satisfactory. Surprise! He's a baseball fan, Marlins of Miami are prominent in his wardrobe and life.
I noticed the socks the players were wearing were staying up and looked snug. I wondered if perhaps they, as pro athletes, used compression socks for protection and support. He ordered several pairs and low and behold, they are better than anything purchased as compression socks. He wears them daily now and is definitely feeling the help from compression. Don't know how they're made, how they're different. But, they are.
So, an interesting side-note on your discussion. A baseball sock is the best help for his needs. I'm thrilled. I'm amazed. Quite surprised.

Welcome @catalyst, We are soon to have a Dollar Tree store so will have to check it out. The softest I've found are made with bamboo fibers.
It sounds like you might also have neuropathy. Can you share a little more about your neuropathy and symptoms?
Have had diabetic neuropathy about 1 yr. RLS discovered in sleep study. Shortly after had left hip replaced. Foot and hand neuropathy occurred gradually. Pain of foot neuropathy triggers flailing of RLS. Had RLS undiagnosed more than 10 yrs but only happened in theaters at night sitting still. Sleep difficult if Rx for RLS and PN don't work. Requiring more Ropinirole and gabapentin. Seeking non Rx treatments for pain. Lidocaine spray works to calm feet before sleep but can wear off letting PN pain trigger RLS. Pressure of shoes when feet bend them triggers PN pain. Less pressure from sandals. No barefeet except in warm shower.
