What are the signs of acute myeloid leukemia (AML)?
My wife has blood disorder and we just found out recently because she contacted covid and we have been treating the covid for about 5 months, but we discovered that what normally causes her nose bleeding for years has been blood disorder and which the doctor said it could be acute leukemia, she often have fever nose bleeding and f weakness and buses in her arms and short of breath and pain in her chest, is that the signs of acute leukemia and if it's what can we do, can she survive it ?

Hi @majid12 I’m glad you found us too! As you can see, there are a number of us who have had a similar journey and we’re hear to help you and your wife get through this.
Having the biopsy should help the doctors diagnose her specific type of leukemia and then direct the treatment accordingly. It may take several days for some of the DNA results to return.
It has to be incredibly difficult for both of you, not being nearby for each other, while you’re away in the military. Does your wife have any family or friends with her?

Hello @majid12 I’ve wondering how your wife is doing and now I see she does have the confirmed diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. You asked about survival rate for AML. This can depend on the type of AML which can be impacted by different mutations. Part of her biopsy results will contain information as to any of the defective genes. That will help her oncologist/hematologist to direct her treatment going forward.
Your wife’s first line of treatment will be chemotherapy to help get her cancer under control. The first round of chemo is called Induction and it’s fairly strong. AML is an aggressive blood cancer so it needs an equally aggressive chemotherapy. Around the end of the first month, she’ll most likely have another biopsy to check on the level of cancer cells remaining in her marrow.
She may require further monthly rounds of chemo to achieve a remission. Her final round is called Consolidation. Her doctors will also determine your wife’s possibility of relapse by the types of mutations she might have.
If she has the potential for high rate of relapse, her doctors will see if she’s a candidate for a bone marrow/stem cell transplant to help insure she stays in remission. This is the type I had and I’m happy to tell you that I am now 3.5 years post AML and Transplant. My doctors are highly encouraged so far.
I know you’re in the military. Are you able to take some leave to be home with her?

She will be in the hospital for quite a while yet. Are you able to have leave to be with her?
