Hi @lkwilliam, I was wondering if it might have had something to do with the type of anesthetic used or the size of the endoscope. Here's an article from 2020 on the topic that you might find helpful:

-- Is sore throat an underreported and under-estimated quality indicator for endoscopic procedures? Results from a large prospective cohort:

Do you think the endoscopy may have damaged something in the throat which caused the impact on swallowing and the clicking?

Thanks for reaching out to me @johnbishop . I took a look at this study.

One of the two numbing agents used was a spray that caused a burning sensation (as the nurse said it would). It seems like this might indeed connect to the sore throat, because the level and sensation of soreness has remained constant since the procedure (two weeks ago), not getting better day by day, and it feels similar to the kind of sensation the agent caused. But I have no real knowledge or experience on which to base a judgment.

My main concern is less the soreness, which is mild enough, and more that some damage to the mechanics of my throat has been done, perhaps in part due to the inexperience of the doctor. (I am in Thailand and she was clearly a relative novice.) I am referring to the *ongoing sensation of swelling/bulging,* *the feeling a lump in the throat when swallowing,* etc. (It's hard for me to know the right words to describe - maybe just say it feels abnormal and uncomfortable).
