Has anyone tried a time release medication for painful peripheral neuropathy?

I also watched an informative YouTube (that I think someone posted here) about neuropathy and gabapentin versus other drugs. He was a medical doctor at one of the big med schools. He said that gabapentin can NOT kill you. He said that if someone were to try to overdose using gabapentin, they would simply wake up embarrassed because they would have extreme gastrointestinal issues... not death.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying it can't kill you. At least a couple have died but they injected a lot.

I would like to know if there is one also. Apparently the two I've only seen on here have the same side effects as one of my symptoms; lightheadednessand dizziness.

Good afternoon Michelle. Thanks for your reply and the additional information about your husband's efforts to live with and regulate the medication he has tried for idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. First, a question. Has your husband received a diagnosis? Did any of the neurologists request a skin biopsy? There is a difference between Small Fiber Peripheral Neuropathy (SFPN) and idiopathic Peripheral Neuropathy (PN).

The only medication that I noticed might be more helpful than we think is Gabapentin. Three weeks ago I had a Total Knee Replacement. At first, the medications were for the surgery and recovery...delaying my normal daily efforts to mitigate my SFPN. The first thing that happened was a return of intense "tingle tangles" and pain in my hands, wrists, and lower arms. Obviously, those parts of my body missed the daily dose of 600 mg of Gabapentin that I was taking every evening. I have tapered off from 1200 mg but I sure won't go any further.

You are correct, Dioxepene appears to have similar effects to Cymbalta. I replaced Nortriptlene with Duloxetine (Cymbalta). I briefly used Doxipene for a neuropathic itch problem but feel the Cymbalta is better for anxiety and depression which in turn can create more pain.

One more question......what is the purpose of the 3-5 miles a day that is worth such extreme pain? Sometimes we have to let go of activities that are no longer of value. I, too like to walk and most days can do 1-2 miles. The 5 mile days are a part of my past which I have replaced with a wonderful Yoga program that we do every morning to stretch muscles and build stamina.

I am glad that you are finding Connect helpful. We are always here for you.

Thank you for the message. Because everyone benefits from open communication I tend to want to communicate publicly. I am still concerned about your husband and the issues you both are managing.

May you be content and have peace and ease.

Thank you Chris. Please don't worry. We're working through it but always looking for new possibilities.

I received an Rx for it but found it was going to be too expensive. I have money to spend but it was ridiculous! It’s the same drug, just in a time release capsule.

My doctor recommended ordering from Canada drug company. You save a lot and you talk to several companies to get the best price. I take a drug that is in US Parma us for $650 a month. In the Canadian group it is $124 for 3 months plus postage. It takes more than 4 weeks to receive because in my case it is Phzier so you have to plan a head. But it is worth it $124 for 3 months as versa $1900 for 3 months.
