I haven't really traveled but looked forward to it for a long time, and then it never happened. But as I realise I have put my life on hold for so long, something is shifting just a little bit. You say you traveled alone to Japan, and that really is a country I always wanted to experience because it's so foreign and different; I wouldn't know where to start and would be discovering myself in the process as well.

Bravo that you did that trip!!!!. I am 81 and am soon leaving for Italy for a one month stay. I lived there for almost 18 years, had a job there and am fluent in Italian. I am going to see old friends and colleagues and I will stay with my closest friend there.
I had to go to the ER this past week - just to be sure that a sudden pain would not be a problem - they saw my other medical conditions and got excited. One doc said he didn't think I would make my trip, but they let me go home and I followed up with my specialist who understands what I have. As we age, we develop health issues, but if we can manage them and are not in imminent danger, why stay home???? What is the point of modern medicine otherwise??? I can walk
normally without pain but have limited endurance. due to lung issues. I asked for a wheelchair at airports so I would not stress myself. Once in Italy it is like being home for me.
The long trip sucks but play the age card at the airport and get help. So medical profession should have guidelines about when one is doing well for one's age and able to do things and guidelines to tell us if something presents risk. One doesn't fall off a cliff when one hits a certain age....and mentally don't even try me I will have you for lunch
