Eliminating Foods for Neuropathy pain
I have tried doing without certain foods and drinks containing caffeine and have discovered it helps me to lower my neuropathy pain to a level that is tolerable. It is not easy to eliminate chocolate, tea, and coffee from my diet.

@fala unfortunately yes - you need to keep chocolate to an absolute minimum.
My neurologist was surprised when I told him that I could tell a difference if I had two beers rather than my usual one.
OMG, OK, that is what I wanted to know. Thank you for letting me know that it was not my imagination working overtime! Sadly, it's a real thing. Sober par-tay for me!
Chocolate actually has nutrients in the form of poly phenols with antioxidant activity.
Sorry I cannot agree with your assessment regarding chocolate.
Probably not the one beer. More likely the running around on your feet, I know that if I walk on hard surfaces the pain in my feet gets worse. I am getting to the point it is hard to even go to the grocery store. Usually my sfn gets worse at night after I sit down. Have your beer, try to limit some of your walking, easier said than done. I am like a jumping bean and have a hard time sitting still.
Good evening @bumper123, welcome to Connect. You sure hit the floor running. Your first post in response to @fala is much appreciated......right @fala? Thanks.
Now, I would like to know a bit more about you as a jumping bean. Have you always been a wiggle worm? Tell me about the feelings on your feet. Are they numb? Do they feel like they are covered in leather? Do you have tingle tangles (my description) up and down your ankles? My feet got so bad that I was not safe driving. So....I now get them worked on twice a week during my MFR (myofascial release therapy) session because I sure don't want to be confined to home and begging rides.
Was your SFN diagnosis based on a skin biopsy? How long have you been "suffering".
May you be free of "suffering and the causes of suffering?"
Chris
Hi : Well here it goes. I hoped off my horse and damaged and partially tear of a tendon. The pain persisted and traveled to my other foot. Weird right. I was diagnosed 12 years ago with Chronic Regional Pain syndrome. Went on Gabapentin and had nerve blocks. I kept searching for an answer. The pain was burning, severe at times. Went to a Neurologist and was told I had Neuropathy. Went on Cymbalta, elavil, and Gabapentin. I lived with it for years. I was a teacher and I had to quit my job because the pain was unbearable. I had a skin biopsy at John Hopkins and it was positive for SFN. Diagnosis was idiopathic non-length SFN Nothing changed. the pain is just getting so bad I have a hard time going to the grocery store, the hard floors I just can not do anymore. I feel deflated at times, the pain is there every day. Thank you - No numbness to speak of
Hi! So good to hear your story. I too was misdiagnosed for years! Putting all the frustration, time spent and money aside, it's the PAIN that we keep fighting. CBD by capsule cuts my pain, but my pain has increased considerably in the last week. I am on another search. I am going to have some acupuncture as another method of lessening the pain. I just want to tolerate it! Also, I am going to find a massage therapist who doesn't want to break the bank. I think that helps the circulation and therefore could lessen the pain. All of this is "could", "maybe" stuff, but problem is "we are all different". Yes, I know. So, we are a special family. In many cases better than our blood relatives ( LOL) Our interests are the same, and that does not necessarily happen in blood relatives. We share in Connect, have J Bishop to jump in and we all want to be better, have less pain and more ideas how to manage that. In the afternoon my feet are screaming and go numb if I drive. Today (first time) my girlfriend is taking me to the Doctors. ( She is between jobs!) So, get fluffy throw rugs, soft but sturdy slippers, thick socks, insoles in your "good" sneakers and let's keep helping each other.
Oh, I forgot to thank you for responding to my cry for one beer. My feet are more painful when I stop walking! Do you have a foot vibrator? That takes my mind off it A LITTLE BIT if I find a good TV show! Best wishes!!
