Anyone gotten Nipple tattoos? Were you happy with the results?

Posted by coffeefreak @coffeefreak, Aug 28, 2022

Hi, all --

I had a bilateral mastectomy in November, 2020 and implant exchange surgery in November, 2021. I've decided I want the 3D nipple tattoos but need to decide where to have them done. I know they can do this at Mayo, or I could also have it done by a tattoo artist. I know that the tattoo artists can do something quite realistic looking. The advantage of having it done at Mayo would be that it would be covered under insurance and it would be done in a medical setting. Has anyone had this done at Mayo, and, if so, were you happy with the results? And does anyone have experience working with a tattoo artist? If so, where did you go and were you happy with your results? Thanks so much!!

I was fortunate that my surgeon was able to save my nipple. But the daughter of one of my friends is an OR nurse and told me about a local tattoo artist who does the tattoos for free for breast cancer patients. One of her colleagues had a bilateral mastectomy and raved about her talent. She showed me photos(this was before I knew if the nipple could be left intact) and they looked fantastic!

My next step, after unilateral exchange surgery in July, would be the nipple decision. My choices are do nothing, nipple reconstruction plus tattoo and 3d tattoo without nipple reconstruction.

Any thoughts out there?

I personally decided on 3D nipple tattoos because, quite frankly, I love not having projection at all. Means I can go without a bra and not worry about it. Also, I've had four breast surgeries and enough is enough....

That said, it's a bit of a different situation if you have the desire to match your natural nipple. Then I wonder if the reconstruction plus the tattoo would give you better results? I'd ask your surgeon. Another option out there is nipple prosthetics. I believe there are companies that can make a prosthetic to match your natural nipple. I have a pair of prosthetic nipples that I like, and if it were up to hubby, I would stick with those and forget about nipple tattoos, LOL. But for some reason I'm seeking a more permanent solution....And, a final option is to do nothing at all. Just boils down to how you feel about it - not everyone feels the need to do something about the nipple(s), and that is completely fine!!

Best of luck to you!

Thank you. Where did you purchase nipple prosthesis; would love to try that first.

I ordered from Naturally Impressive. They look quite realistic! I think Pink Perfect will make custom nipples to match one’s natural nipple. Hope this helps!!
