Effect of animal protein consumption on prostate cancer

Posted by timmer2 @timmer2, Aug 23, 2022

Anyone have reliable information on how eating animal protein affects prostate cancer? Specifically, is animal protein metabolized in such a way that prostate cancer growth promotion occurs? Thanks

Welcome @timmer2, Great question. I'm not sure of the answer as there is no definitive proof of cause and effect but there is some data suggesting that there is a link. Here are a couple of references that speak a little about the problem answering the question.

I have cut back a lot on red meat but absolutely can't eat fish, so I depend on chicken, turkey and my favorite - bacon 😁 How about you, have you cut back or eliminated red meat?

Hi I too thought it was originally confined to red meat, but read from a number of sources that its linked to all animal protein including white meat and salt water fish. Link below. I had just eliminated red meat but now extended this to chicken and fish, although do occasionaly have fish or prawns once per week. The issue with Dairy is slightly different, that's due to the presence of the insulin growth factor hormone.
The same points are also covered at length in the book the China Study, which is an excellent read and clearly establishes the link to dairy and and animal protein not only being associated with higher incidence of cancer but also the majority of major diseases.

If anyone is eating beef but needing to avoid antibiotics and such, Whole Foods is being sued for fraudulent advertising of beef it's selling.

Hi, I’ve cutback 100% on red meat and processed meats. I eat fish twice a week, chicken, beans, nuts, cold cereals with protein and lots of vegetables. I also use high quality oil in all my cooking. I’m one of those guys who pushes his lawn mover because he can. I’ve been encourage by my PSA tests, with undetectable reports, since my surgery, which was 8 months ago. (Note, cancer was found in one of eight lymph node tests. It had a Gleason score of 7.) In summary, I feel there is some merit in eliminating red meat from your diet. I think if you look around you’ll find more alternative sources for protein. Good luck.

Hello, very interesting information. Have you heard anything about wild-game meat? I’ve been able to eat mostly wild game.
Thank,

Hi Jerry,
Unfortunately, I think the issue with animal protein applies to all meat, is my take on this.

I’ve wondered this too since I rarely consume actual beef or pork now unless it is combined with venison and that is not too often. I don’t think we’ll ever know the answer to this because in today’s world there are not enough of us to do any kind of study.

I tried a vegan diet but found it too difficult to get sufficient protein each day. Now I have salmon or tuna several times per week and occasionally very lean turkey. Otherwise lots of fresh vegetables.

We’re on very similar paths. I’ve found it doable. Thanks for sharing.
