What is this scan used for and is it superior to other scans in the same category?

My husband had this scan this year and they did show high grade cancer at the prostrate but none in the bones. The reason our doctor ordered it for him is because he has lesions in all of his bones from Multiple Myeloma so this distinguished prostate cancer from multiple myeloma. It was pretty amazing in that it did not show any lesions in his bones even though we know that he has active myeloma in several bones. It is awesome what science can do.
I definitely think it was worth it for him since he ended up only needing radiation for the prostrate.
