If you struggle to read or see objects in general

I'm not sure where to post this because lots of people have trouble at some time.
I have macular degeneration and have been searching for good affordable vision aids. I saw this product on Amazon and watched their you-tube tutorial videos. It is inswan-1 -2 and-3. This is basically a USB web-cam on a small adjustable portable stand. It was $69 with free ship and returns (nothing to loose) so I bought the ins-3 with the removable head.
I am impressed so far. It is plug and play so very easy to get started.
Watch the videos. It might help you read the fine print on your prescription bottle.

Hi Bob @mazzepabob, Thanks for starting this discussion. I had a good friend that I used to help with his computer related problems and software. He was an avid coin collector and used his Mac to keep track of his collection. This has been a few years ago but he had a small USB web cam device I think may have been a predecessor of the INS-3. He used it to look at the dates and mint marks to help grade the coins. It worked really well on his computer. They are really great for those of us who have difficulty seeing/reading and can use a computer. I thought I would share the link to the manufacturer's page for others to check it out.

@mazeppabob, I think the Aging Well group was a good place to start this discussion. I also added it to the Eye Conditions group. It's been a few weeks since you started using the ins-3. Any changes in your opinion of the product? How does it help (or not)?

I have glaucoma and have spots where I cannot see. My web cam is terrible, I am guessing that it won't work unless you have a functioning cam.

@Colleen I use the ins-3 frequently to read text and magnify small items. It is basically a USB web cam with many useful features.
This is one more weapon in my arsenal to fight the effects of AMD. It seems reasonably priced ($69) when compared to other low vision aids costing as much as $2500.

@carolee888 This would be a second webcam totally independent of your original. Plug it into a USB port, and download the documate software. Click on documate and the new cam should appear.

This is great news to me. I have had Macular Degeneration about 10 years now and have lost all but periferal sight in one eye. This item could be a great help to me. I really appreciate you spreading the news; My retina specialist never gives me any info on special aids for vision or anything else; just give the shots and leave.
That is why it is so important to depend on one another for info we can trust. Than YOu!
