@nancynaninnice

I have neuropathy from my 2 antibiotics I am taking for embedded urinary infection. I had 15 uti in a 6 month period, so non stop antibiotics keeps it at bay. I need to change antibiotics but most of them cause neuropathy. I`m lost.

@pamelaz
Your side effects may decrease in severity or go away altogether.
Since all 4 medications can potentially cause balance problems, did those problems begin soon after you started taking Gabapentin?
Take care,

How much gabapentin are you taking?

I can deal with the burning and numbness during the day. I take 400 mg. of Gabapentin at bedtime and 25 mg. of Amitriptyline and 1000 mg. of aspirin. This seems to work ok most of the time but if the burning in my feet is bad at bedtime I use Aspercream with 4% Lidocaine. That helps me get some sleep. Good luck.
I also have Erythromelalgia and Raynaud's
So My feet are either red, ho and swollen or purplish blue and cold. '

What ALA brand and dosage do you use?

My neurologist suggested ALA for my neuropathy which was very painful in both legs, and especially my big toe. I started with Jarrow and in 3 weeks had some relief. I then switched to Pure Encapsulations which is much more expensive but has no fillers and got much better relief. I was up to 2400 units per day to quiet that big toe. Then during Covid I lost 50 pounds and was getting stomach aches from such a large dose. Reduced amount to 1200 units and all is fine. Suggest use good brand like Thorne or Pure Encapsulations. ALA is a prescription drug in Germany and is given intravenously in large doses. Many doctors in this country unfortunately do not know about it. (PS - also good for skin)

I am diagnosed 7 years ago with a mild case of PN. Started in left foot, worked up left calf, then right foot, working up right calf. No pain, just tingling and temperature sensations. Today, 8/7/2022, woke up with a feeling of weakness in both lower legs. Again, no paid, just weak sensations in each lower leg. Can anyone share if this is a continuation of the progressive nature of PN? Or any other explanation?

Is it an ointment?

Good afternoon, I think you can call it an ointment. I just call it a balm. It is heavier than any cream or lotion with which I am familiar.
