Did you have a sleep study and MSLT done?
I ask because I have Narcolepsy and it sounds like you may. It is still considered rare because it's usually misdiagnosed for years as depression, chronic fatigue, etc. So there hasn't been loads of research done and therefore, a lot of doctors don't know much about it.
My sleep doctor in Rochester is technically a neurologist; you might want to look in that area.
CFS can cause sleep disorder as I have a dear friend who has it. Have you tried Melatonin 5 mg for sleep? Sounds like you go to sleep but are a light sleeper....I could be wrong. I'm so sorry. This has got to be extremely tiring. God Bless.
I have chronic fatigue syndrome. I have also always dreamt - all of my life. I can tap into dreams I have had and almost play them on a loop. My recurring theme is travel, I’m late or can’t reach the plane because suddenly I don’t have the right luggage packed and need to shop at the airport, or I’m at the hotel packing to go home and everyone else is packed and gone and my stuff gets more and more. I suspect this theme does come from stress - it isn’t every night. I can remember my dreams last night like watching a film.
I wake exhausted every single day. Sometimes more than others. I do take Modafinil!! I couldn’t function without it.
I dream when I take a day nap. But day naps are more peaceful. Blissful even.
It affects my life.
My female family are all vivid dreamers. I think it’s genetic too.
I came here looking for answers as to why dreams exhaust me so badly - I’m 52 don’t know why I haven’t googled before!!
Pneumonia triggered my chronic fatigue syndrome- maybe I was destined for it as functioning exhaustion from dreaming has been my life!
You ask some good questions, @mazeppabob. I wish there were some more answers. You really have tried to come up with an answer as well as a solution. You are undoubtedly working and advocating for yourself on this sleep issue.
I found an organization online, The National Sleep Foundation. The website is https://www.thensf.org/issues/. As this organization seems to be continually working to research sleep problems, you might keep an eye out there for answers to problems similar to yours.
I'd like to hear how you are doing. Will you post again with any other insights, questions, or concerns?
