Left shoulder pain after eating or drinking

Posted by jrofri @jrofri, Dec 5, 2017

Has anyone experienced severe left shoulder pain, down the upper arm, up the neck to the ear, approximately 15 mins after eating. This pain usually lasts for three hours after eating a meal.

My gram had the same problem...actually all my aunts too cuz it runs in families.
She got her gall bladder checked and had to have it come out..its a simple thing.
Also gall stones, which I have alot of and they do nothing about , can do same thing.
Best bet...get images of ur gall bladder ordered by ur primary...and if they come back pos...they should refer u to a surgeon 4 a consult.
I got sent 4 one, and the surgeon told me I'm OK for now unless it gets bad.
Also..pay attention to the color of ur poop...if it has a green tinge..that could also be a sign...and burping or gas..farting....lol..just kidding. 😉
Hope this helps. Peace to u...and best wishes....don't give up until u get an answer!!!!....our bodies are our temples!!! Audrey.

@bottlexcap - in describing your stools It sounds as if you definitely have some problems with pancreatic enzyme for digestion.
Pain in left shoulder blade area can be referred from the esophagus, pain from pancreas mid back and towards left shoulder. Pain under right rubs often related to gallbladder disease, including stones in the biliary ducts.
I have to agree that you should go to a place like Mayo now.
You have had so many tests- having more now would be a waste of time.

could be splenic flexure syndrome, could be hiatal hernia, and/or both could press on the vagus nerve, which travels up through the left side...pinching of the vagus nerve, can create some signs/symptoms like this, the human body and digestive system is far more complicated than I ever knew or dreamed of...

My shoulder hurts when I eat fruits. I went through the process of elimination and came up with watermelon, grapes, apples and pineapple cause me continuous dull pain in my left shoulder.

I am waiting on the result of my MRI of the neck and shoulder, but Dr's don't understand why I am experiencing pain in my shoulder. My next appointment with a Nuerological Surgeon is scheduled for Monday 10/31/22 and I will let them know that it has to be the fruit. I just think it's odd and painful that this is happening to me. People think I am crazy. I also have Discoid Lupus, Acid reflux and Nreve damage. Not sure if any of this is contributing to my symptoms but I'd like to find out.

Welcome @jayrob624. It does sound a bit crazy, doesn't it. But you're not alone. I have moved your post about feeling pain in your shoulder after eating to this existing discussion:

Interesting that your trigger appears to be specifically fruit. Do you experience similar pain with any other foods, liquids, or activities?

I’m having this same issue, it mainly only happens when I eat at night, but my pain radiates through my left arm to my hand and elbow, my shoulder, and even sometimes my left breast. It’s like a dull tender pain. I’ve gone to the ER twice, worried because it felt like a heart attack, I’m only 20 so I don’t feel they had much urgency in thinking there were any underlying heart issues, but I still asked for labs and got and an ecg both times, all showing I’m perfectly fine. I’ve been diagnosed with GERD but i think these stomach problems cause confusion and the doctors keep recommending remedies for heartburn when this feels entirely different. One doctor did an ultrasound and said my muscle was spasming but I’m not very active with my arms, I haven’t had an injury, and I obviously know the trigger is eating. It’s been going on since February and I just wanna feel better and not like I’m having a heart attack every time I eat dinner or worrying I’m having like blod clots or something. Does anyone have any answers?

@jrofri I just stumbled upon this old post and it sounds exactly like what I have been battling for almost 10 yrs..ever since my gallbladder removal. Shoulder pain radiating to the upper left quadrant after eating lasting for hours but episodic for months at a time. Did you ever have any resolution? I have seen over a dozen drs from all fields and no one can figure out why this is happening.
