Bipolar Testing and Financial Help
My 28 year old daughter was diagnosed for bipolar several years ago, not tested, just a doctor told her she was bipolar based on what was happening in her life. She thought she was an animal, Mother Nature, stripped naked, ran down halls, etc. Psychotic break.
She was on Lythium for a while and that got her back to normal. But she stopped taking everything several years ago because she felt it didn't help and was making her feel awful.
She doesn't want to take meds, but recently has been having a horrible time. She started up a new business, spent 12 hour days for 3 months, and before the grand opening, we had to shut it down temporarily while she takes time off for mental health.
She's been having screaming outbursts, she misinterprets everything and it turns into a screaming argument, tirade, etc.
She wants a test to make sure she has the right diagnosis.
She has no mental health insurance, but does have health insurance.
She has no income.
We've tried to find a psychiatrist in the area, but their waiting lists are booked through to January.
A psychologist said they do testing, but the cost is $2,500.00.
Where can someone get an affordable test?
Where can she get financial help?
She saw a counselor twice last week at $65.00 per visit, but the counselor said something to tick her off and she won't go back.
We want to help her but just don't know where to go or what to do.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello @starry,
Most likely your state or county has a mental health agency. If you contact them they might be able to put you in contact with some mental health resources to help your daughter. It is a good indication that she is treatable since the Lithium did stabilize her during the time she took that med. It is a common occurrence for people with Bipolar to go off their meds.
As I suggested in another post to you, NAMI might be a good resource for you as well. Once again, here is the website, https://nami.org/home.
Will you post again and let me know how you and your daughter are doing?
