My Gastro helps my colitis but not my GERD. What should I do?

Posted by mikejjb123 @mikejjb123, Jul 1, 2022

I have a great Gastro who is controlling my colitis. However, I have GERD and have had nausea and stomach pain for over 3 years. Have had my Gall Bladder tested, BRAVO test for GERD, and Endoscopy all come back negative. He doesn't seem to be helping me with the GERD/nausea but I am afraid he will no longer see me for colitis if I go to another doctor. Live in Baltimore, MD area and know John Hopkins has great Gastros. What should I do? Opinions? I am confused. Thanks.

I don't see why any doctor would object to a patient wishing to get a 2nd opinion. Maybe just explain it to him. Also, if you haven't already, ck out the book "The Acid Watchers Diet". I've started implementing some of the recommendations and have had really good results with my GERD so far.

Have you asked your GI about ppi’s? Have you changed your diet?

I live near Annapolis and called Johns Hopkins for a gerd appointment. They had me forward my records and determined I wasn’t an urgent case even though I feel awful every day. I was approved for a first available appointment which is in January 2023. I took it.

Thanks! Just ordered the book! I have cyclical nausea. I feel good a couple days out of the month and then it is all downhill. Much appreciated!

Thanks! I'm giving my dr until the end of week to give me some input. I feel good for a day or two and then forget it! Appreciated all the input.

I have GERD symptoms from a stomach problem because of non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma leading to removal of a section of the lower part of my small intestine. I ended up with Barrett’s Esophagus so my gastroenterologist put me on omeprazole to quiet the acid. Have you tried it. Should stop your GERD.
