Important information about statins that I’m going to ask my doc about
Just a bit of information I discovered last week. One of the side effects of taking "simvistatin" is temporary memory loss. It is the only statin that has this effect. I am going to talk to my .doctor about stopping it, with his guidance of course. I have had some short lapses in memory .... forgetting part of my phone number, etc.

See your older post and hoping you will find my reply. I have been on isosorbide mono for your same reason 6 months now. I also take amlodipine. I had tried Zetia (ezetimibe) a few years ago and ended up discontinuing because of side effects. My docs encouraged me to try again and I have tried several times since adding the nitrate varying the frequency. It causes problems in some areas and seems to help in others. What is your latest?
Has anyone had experience taking Nexzilet as an alternative to statin intolerance? It’s fairly new I believe and GP has suggested it (taken in place of statin) to lower cholesterol. My cholesterol is only borderline elevated, but calcium score is high for my age. Thank you
I stopped taking a statin after reading they have negative effect on PN.
I have replaced it with citrus bergamot.
I have been reading good things about this supplement. Here is the most comprehensive information I found about studies. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6497409/#:~:text=Bergamot%20juice%20was%20found%20to,0.20%20in%20the%20hypercholesterolemic%20group.
This is a question I always ask about unregulated supplements. What form of bergamot are you using, and where are you getting it? Have you decided to concentrate on the polyphenol form or the flavenoids? Do you have diabetes?
I look forward to your report of the effectiveness in a few weeks.
Sue
@sueinmn Good morning Sue I received this info about Bergamot.I do take rosovastatin and my cholesterol is within limits only my triglycerides are high I will look into this to add and see if it brings my triglycerides down .Thanks for the information .
All statins can decrease st memory
The more I learn about pharmaceuticals, the more I dislike them! There should be a law against drug pushers advertising prescription drugs. That should be left to a qualified doctor if he truly believes the drug will help his patient, instead of just believing what the drug rep told him. I for one will only take a drug as a last resort. I believe physicians are too hasty with a prescription pad instead of spending time with the patient to decide whether or not there are less radical ways to treat their complaints. I really, really miss the General Practitioners of my youth. 😞

My PhD Nurse Practitioner of over 20 years is my "General Practitioner" - and my daughter's. Even after referral to a specialist, I go over the results & recommendations with her before I act.
Here is why I am so avidly pursuing an alternative to statins. My total cholesterol panel is good, except my LDL is at the higher end of normal for an "at risk" person. Age, heredity & mild to moderate heart changes and chronic pulmonary issues put me in the risk category for stroke, myocardial infarction and congestive heart failure. The cardiologist is quite put off by my refusal of statins, but a single trial years ago, plus watching the side effects in my Mom, siblings and husband has totally put me against them.
I have a note in to my NP about giving the bergamot a try, and which to use. She has agreed with my reluctance to use statins so far, but says we need to find an alternative. Diet & exercise haven't quite done the job.

Thanks! I read it and it was very comprehensive. Just what I needed.
Now if I can stop taking Lisinopril! It is also bad for PN.
Seems like they are all bad except natural.
I don't have diabetes, but I'm right on the line for pre-diabetes.
Would anyone know about alternatives to Lisinopril?
