Does anyone know if you have a period of time to take an AI for it to be effective, after radiation?

I remember there was a window for deciding on chemo or not but don't remember what it was and whether it applied to hormonal therapy. I would ask your doc!

I was told to wait two to three weeks at least. I was told there is flexibility the first year until it is determined that the Med is tolerated.

My doctor told me that it wasn’t too late after a few years. I was out of chemo and radiation for a few years and had not seen a doctor, (trying to outrun the cancer). When I saw her the first time she said it’s never to late to hedge your bets.
I would think different doctors might have different answers. How long has it been since you finished radiation.

Geez, it seems like I was just starting to recover from everything at 4 months. I can’t imagine that your doctor would think that too late. If cancer is driven by estrogen it would seem like it would never be too late to reduce the risk by lowering the estrogen. I certainly wouldn’t advocate for waiting, but I wouldn’t think it too late either.
When do you see your doctor next? Did they already recommend a therapy for you?

I’m fishing radiation this week. In two weeks I’ll see my PCP. I’m going to wait until I have all of my blood work labs completed and reviewed before starting anastrozole. My prescription is waiting for me

I was told, the sooner the better, for hormonal treatment but there was a specific window for the chemo decision. @pegrw curious why you are waiting for blood work results, and what kind of blood work? I didn't have any blood work after my mastectomies but maybe there is blood work after radiation-?

My MO is leaving the blood work orders to my PCP, my spot with my PCP is July 8. I want baseline cholesterol, liver function, and vitamin C prior to starting the anastrozole along with the complete panel results. My RO suggested I wait to start under I had healed from the radiation so I would identify which SE were from radiation and which were from the anastrozole. I asked the MO about her ordering the blood panel, but she deferred it to the PCP, a decision that disappoints me.
