Telephone Medical Information Review phone call
FYI,
Mayo has started doing "Telephone Medical Information Review" phone calls prior to some appointments. I had one this morning for an oncology appt tomorrow. The representative said they just started this week. Quick 5 minute call to review items they use to do in office prior to seeing provider.
I verified that Mayo was not charging me for phone call.
The call will show up on your portal as an appointment.
Here are questions they asked me, yours may be different based on type appointment.
• Review Medication
• Preferred pharmacy
• Allergies
• Medical devices
• Any questions about upcoming appointment

@roch Laurie, how do you feel about this? From where I sit, it seems like it will be a positive, so information is already in front of the team ahead of time, and there is more efficient use of everyone's time there.
I will be interested to hear your thoughts, and how it all plays out for you.

@gingerw ,
To answer your question about how I felt about call, I was OK with phone call, but I am retired and it did not interrupt my day. If I had a busy schedule, was traveling or was in place unable to take a private call, I would not appreciate.
It does seem a duplication of pre-check-in I did on portal few days earlier. Same questions. Not sure why have to do both. They need to streamline so only have to do one or the other.
I did tell her I had reviewed my meds online and list was correct, so she did not make be go through my long list of meds.
Only thing covered in call not in pre-check-in portal questions is representative asking if I had any questions about upcoming appointment. If I was new to Mayo or not sure what to expect, that would be opportunity to ask questions.
If I have multiple appoints in different areas, I hope they do not expect me to do a phone call for each appointment.

Perfect! I have one tomorrow and wondered what it was about, and have one in June for different specialty. Now I know. Thanks. Good idea too, precision is important before a procedure
I’m glad to see this post, because I wondered if it was something they do on repeat visits. We are flying MN today for my one year follow up appointments this week. I didn’t remember doing the pre-calls last year when I was a new patient. I’ll let you know how it goes!
An appointment showed up in my Patient Portal saying Telephone Medical Information Review. The time they gave me is not a good time but I see no way to change the time. Who sets this up? I'm not new to Mayo and am not new to either department I'm scheduled for in July. I always do my pre check-ins and my medicine list is updated. Are these calls on time and how long do they take? What exactly are they looking for? And why can't I change the time? This is so strange.
@mntwins808, as you likely read from @roch's post, you'll know that Telephone Medical Information Reviews were recently added to improve the flow of your appointment and to save you and your team time. See her initial post to learn more about what is asked during the information Review https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/telephone-medical-information-review-phone-call
I'm surprised that you are not able to request a different time. I suggest calling the Appointment Office to find out how. See the numbers for all campuses here: https://www.mayoclinic.org/appointments
Alternatively, Concierge Services may be able to help: https://www.mayoclinic.org/patient-visitor-guide/minnesota/concierge-services
I'm going to see what I can find out too. If you find out how to reschedule before I get back to you, please let me know what you found out.
I had a pre-appt call on Thursday, took less then 5 minutes. Asked about allergy's, meds and any implant devices.
I suggest tying Colleen advice to call appointment desk and ask about rescheduling.
It is my understanding, that if for some reason the phone call does not happen, it does not effect you regular in person appointment.
The pre-appointment phone call is just Mayo trying to streamline the process.
So if you can not reschedule or miss the phone call, I would not worry about.

Thanks for your information. It's unfortunate there isn't more information about it in the portal instead of suddenly finding it my list of appointments. A way to reschedule and how long the appointment takes would have been helpful. I appreciate your answer.
Thank you for taking the time to answer and providing links. If this appointment takes less than 30 minutes I'll be okay as far as time.
Hi @mntwins808, Were you able to reschedule the telephone interview?
