Topical Magnesium Lotion for Feet

Posted by Debbie @dbeshears1, Jun 10, 2022

Yesterday I had an Integrative Medicine doctor encourage me to try rubbing a topical Magnesium ointment on feet, saying she’s heard it’s an anecdotal remedy for neuropathy feet, especially if they feel like you’re walking on gel pads or bubble wrap and may feel wobbly for balance (not pain). I’m never opposed to trying anything at reasonable costs if it seems to have merit, but while I’m googling where to find it, I thought I’d throw it out to this group and see if anyone has tried it and what results they think they got from it? Thank you 🙂

The Life Flo I bought from Amazon was $11.99 for an 8oz bottle. I could have bought a 3 pack for a cheaper cost per ounce, but wanted to try it first. It looks like 8oz can last awhile for me, so the quantity is good. I’ve liked the benefits and am grateful for the recommendations of this group!

Hi everyone: Thank you for all the wisdom shared in this group. I am 82 yrs old and have had neuropathy for a decade. It was getting worse, from mild numb feeling in my legs to a constant burning sensation in the last few months. I started to take a vitamin B complex pill daily and in about a week the burning sensation was gone. Just want to share this with you.

Welcome @glomerulo, Thanks for sharing what helps you with the burning sensation. Have you also tried other treatments that didn't help?

I was told that there is no treatment for neuropathy and my symptoms were relatively minor, so I really never paid much attention to it until the burning sensation took a level that prompted my decaying neurons to do their job. Lately, other organs in my body are feeling the heavy weight of aging and in a time of super-specialists, the last thing doctors worry about is the lowly neuropathy. Most of them know little about it and tend to focus on their favorite organ and their pockets rather than in the suffering patient. I admire all of you trying to learn more about your own body and face the fact that in fifteen minutes a doctor is unable to see the whole picture. (Unless you go to the Mayo clinic).

My neurologist is pretty sure I have SFN. For about a year I have had tingling in my hands and feet. My first neurologist thought it wasn’t small fiber neuropathy because it started in my hands at the same time. Now along with the tingling, I have what I can only describe as little shooting pins in my legs from my knees down. I feel all this more when I’m not moving. After reading this, I purchased and tried both the magnesium lotion and the frankincense and myrrh balm. Neither one did anything for the tingling. Do you have to use it repeatedly to see results or should I have noticed a difference right away? Are there any other products anyone has tried or uses for the tingling? I’m trying to find something that would help the tingling. Any suggestions appreciated!

@joypalmer1, Keeping the skin hydrated may just be part of the equation but I'm no expert. I have numbness in the legs with my neuropathy and also some tingling but not bad which may be due to the fact that my legs are squeezed by compression socks all day long. I have used magnesium lotion on my legs along with other moisturizers and it does make the legs feel better but I think it's just part of solution since it keeps the skin from drying out and the nerves are near the skin. The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy has a list of complementary and alternative treatments on their website here that might be helpful - https://www.foundationforpn.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Complementary-and-Alternative-Treatments-Revised-2020-final.-1.pdf. They also have a list of other treatments members have used to help here - https://www.foundationforpn.org/treatments/.

Does the Magnesium lotion and the Wise Men balm work after the first application, or are they things you need to use for awhile to see results?
