Botox for Migranes

Posted by Sundance(RB) @sundance6, May 6, 2019

Despite some of you saying not to try Botox Therapy for Migranes, I did anyway! What a mistake! Toxins such as Botox don't set well in my body.
It has been almost three weeks since my treatment. I have been having the worse headaches than before I started. I have been having severe nick and shoulder pain. I get very lathargic and depressed because I have them all the time. Doctor said it just happens.
Can someone give me some feedback as to if they have had the treatment and any side effects you may experienced. I go to bed with a headache and wake up with one.
I won't do another treatment!

@mikaylar

May I ask why you got Botox when the headache had gone away?

I didn't get Botox for that headache, I got it for my Migraines, I have those since I am a child, and they were bad a few people who have migraines suggested I do the Botox so I did, it was not for the headache that I had from the bike accident that ended in 2019, I did the botox ast year in 2021 August. hope this explains it.

I use ice for my migraines. I also have Daily Persistent Headache for almost 3 years, every day/all day. It is debilitating. I keep praying I will get relief to go to my grandson's wedding in Sept. This Saturday is the shower that I will miss. I feel so badly for you as I understand.

I feel for you as well, this pain that I am experiencing is not a headache, well it could be called a headache, it's a severe pain when I cough and somehow it brings on the cough, the pain is excruciating, once the severe pain is over after a few seconds a dull headache remains, I also feel pain when I bend down or when I want to do some stretch exercises its always there I feel it, but when I cough its a killer, been to 4 neurologists and no one can help me because it doesn't show on any tests like cat scan or MRI I am positive I got it from the Botox shots I got a series of shots on my forehead, and was still having migraines so he gave me another series 2 weeks later, now I read that you are supposed to wait 12 weeks before getting more shots, I am giving up hope of any Dr. helping me it is a real curse. thank you for your reply

Have you had a chest xray? Seems like you have to figure out how to avoid the cough. Suck on lozenges until you can figure out this. Did you have a brain MRI?

yes I had a brain MRI and a cat scan all good...yesterday I went to my Dermatologist he was the one to administer
the Botox, and he surprised me by admitting that I am right that it is the Botax that he injected twice in 2 weeks on the right side of my forehead that most probably is causing my severe pain because it is on the side where the bike hit me 4 years ago in 2018 and I had a headache for a year from that which stopped in 2019, so when he injected me twice in that area it triggered something most probably a nerve and this is why I am having such pain, he is sending me to another Dr. to maybe figure out what to do, at least now I know that I was right all the time, that 4 Neurologists could not figure it out or help me, now I am on the right track, hopefully I will be able to get some relief one day soon, so far I still have the pain.
thank you for your response Mikala

Just keep searching out for an answer. Who would have thought the dermatologist would have hit on that. No more Botox! Do you have a headache center near you?

I don't have a headache, I have a severe pain in my head when I cough from the Botox shot administered in the area on my forehead where I fell on my head in 2018, when the Dr. put the shot in my forehead it triggered a nerve we think. I have migraine headaches, this is besides this pain in my head, this pain is not treated as a headache.

I agree on botox. 1 treatment put me in immediate overnight hospital observation because they thought I had a stroke. One side of face wouldn't move. I had other side effects but cant remember them. (Memory problem mainly due to other medical issues) Of course 5 doctors said it couldn't be the result of botox. Even thought they didn't know what caused it. Lol
Also physicians who gave me the treatment said they never had it happen before.
I am fortunate as my face returned to normal in 2 months.

My mother had over 50 treatment by a few Dr's. She stopped after almost dying. Seriously. She needed help to move, swallow, etc.

I was lucky, both treatments had no effects except blood dripping down my forehead. Didn't help the headache. I am so sorry you had all these problems.
