Burning Feet syndrome

Posted by ndovu @ndovu, Mar 17, 2012

Hi everyone! Am 40yrs man in Africa - Country. Kenya. In 1993 aged 22 and in college, I developed burning feet. So hot have been my feet that I've not worn closed shoes all those yrs
All tests done over the yrs -,including blood sugar, pressure, vitamin test, nerve endings test etc. All have been negative. I'm generally healthy, with no major problem. I need anyone who has had such a problem and got help to help.

Sorry to hear about your feet. Did your doc check to see if you're diabetic or pre-diabetic? Have you taken Levaquin? What about vaccinations? Root canals? Toxic chemicals, lead, mercury, aluminum? Wondering if anyone has seen any studies linking glyphosate to PN? It's just strange that this problem seems to be so global and so prevalent isn't it?

GP says my blood sugar is OK , B12 OK there is nothing to suggest anything amiss there, more likely to be related to pain in back and hips

@lotsofpain

I am having a lot of trouble with a burning sensation under my feet, the GP has checked my pulses and there is nothing in my blood chemistry to suggest anything wrong there so she is concluding its neural nerve pain. Does this make sense. She wants me to take amyltriptaine ( that's probably not spelt right) will that help ?

My neuro wanted me to try nortriptyline which is a second generation version if amytriptyline, instead of, or together with gabapentin. It is often prescribed for neuropathy and is a combination anti depressant and nerve pain reliever she said. My research showed no proof of benefit although she claims to have patients who did well with it. To date I have not tried it.

@jager5210, Can you provide the link to the article you quoted? It is a copyright infringement to cut and paste an article, so I had to remove the copy.

Here is the British Journal of Medicine study by Yasmina Molero et al.
Associations between gabapentinoids and suicidal behaviour, unintentional overdoses, injuries, road traffic incidents, and violent crime: population based cohort study in Sweden (2019) https://www.bmj.com/content/365/bmj.l2147

It is important to note that the researchers concluded that "these associations varied with age and type of gabapentinoid. Overall, gabapentinoids seem to be safe for a range of outcomes in older people. ...clinical guidelines may need review regarding prescripgtions for young people, and those with substance use disorders."

While drugs, like gabapentin, help many people, it's always good to talk to your doctor if your concerned about medication you're taking.

I just skimmed the article and the number I see are 1%, 1.2%, and 1.4% -- those are low numbers. Women on our period have higher numbers and higher risk of suicide, etc. The article also states that the people selected for the study also had co-morbidity: epilepsy and/or psychiatric problems. From Amazon, Natra Cure socks! They have gel inserts to cover the top and bottom of your feet, they even stay on as you fall asleep, I would recommend two pairs so you always have one in the freezer ready for use. I have the smaller blue ones and wear a size 8 shoe, female. Just fit, Could be an inch longer. Definitely provide relief while you’re at home, I’ll take them with me when I travel, sometimes I even lay them on my burning calf or thigh.
