@jimmijo

We have had her since she was 3 and we seen certain things different early but just thought it was normal for her. Since she was about 9 she started with some of the things i mentioned in the last post and I am afraid of what she can handle on her own when she graduates. I am afraid she can't take care of her self.

Hello @jimmijo,

It is so good of you and your wife to care for her parents as well as her niece. You are obviously caring people and I can certainly understand your concern for your wife's niece, especially given the family history of schizophrenia. I agree with @amandajro that it is good that you are reaching out for help. You mention that you are concerned about her being able to care for herself after graduation and this is a valid concern based on your observations.

A second opinion from a psychiatrist could be very helpful. Have you tried to get an appointment with another doctor to evaluate this young girl? A university medical school or a facility like Mayo Clinic might be a good place for a second opinion.

Was the doctor she saw previously a behavioral therapist?
