A number of things can cause hair thinning but there’s one many woman, myself included, that never heard about it. If you are going into menopause, I unfortunately started at 40, I’m 78 now, your estrogen/estradiol levels begin to drop. It’s Mother Nature’s way of protecting our bodies but there’s a drawback. We do need a small amount of the hormone to keep things working. If our bodies lack enough, it has a backup plan, it produces a substitute. The name of it is DHT, short for Dehydrotestosterone. It’s a killer our bodies make, bet you didn’t know that huh! What does it kill, the roots to your hair. This in turn cuts off the supply of blood to the root, causing the hair to become brittle and snap off. This occurs to most woman and pretty soon you can see the scalp. At first it’s a few hairs, then more and more till it starts to collect in the drain of the shower/tub. My hair is so thin now, I can blow a puff of air and watch my hair blow in the breeze. Don’t panic tho ladies, science helped up by creating 2 drugs that blocks most of the effects of DHT but naturally they’re expensive. If you have a good prescription plan or rich enough, I recommend both drugs. One stops the DHT effect by 70% the other by 90%. It worked for me but I had to stop either strength because of a medical problem it affects to much and my hair now is baby thin. So if you’re one of the ladies that are suffering from to much thinning hair, talk to your pcp about getting one of the drug strengths.
About your nighttime snacking, that’s a big NO-NO, especially if you end up with heartburn or GERD at night.
Thank you very much Becky. My hair doesn't fall out and I don't see it in the drain. It has progressively gotten thinner this year. I just don't know which way to go. I have tried Bosley for women but you have be diligent and I haven't been. There are sooo many products out there for thinning hair and it's a bit overwhelming. I hate my hair now and seeing my scalp is really scary. Luckily I had beautiful hair (not to brag) so it's quite a shock to watch your hair thin slowly for a year. Thankfully I'm salt and pepper so the scalp doesn't show as much as it would if my hair were still dark. As far as snacking I never, thankfully, get heart burn even though I have a hernia. It's so hard because I'm up late but I will persevere. Thank you very much, I appreciate it.
