Night Time Muscle Spasms

Posted by 7797 @7797, May 9, 2022

i'm in severe need relief from nighttime muscle spasms. I've had hip replacement and hip revision after severe metal issues. I've limited caffiene, limited aspertame, upped water consumption, taken Ropinerole and Horizant, stretch every night, heat and ice. Is there any relief anywhere

Hi @7797, It must be the pits when your sleep is interrupted and you can't get any rest. It sounds like you've tried all of the normal changes to help with leg cramps. Are the muscle spasms only in your legs?

Yes. In my thigh. Do any nerve regeneration vitamins/supplements work? Do any nerve blocking agents work?

I don't have any medical knowledge or experience to answer your questions but I'm wondering if members in the following discussion might be able to share some tips or suggestions with you.

@jonpaulcobaltpo posted about metal allergy which you mentioned in your post possibly causing the spasms. I tagged the member but not sure they are still following the discussion. Here's the link to the post in the discussion above - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/225491/.

I did find an article mentioning the connection that may provide more information. "2020 — More recently, systemic cobalt toxicity has been associated with metal-on-metal (MoM) total hip arthroplasty or shaving of cobalt-chromium ..." --- Cobalt-Induced Toxicity and Spasticity Secondary to Hip Arthroplasty: Case Report and Review of the Literature: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7842236/

Have you discussed the cramps with your doctor?

I have found excellent relief from nighttime leg cramps from rubbing PURE MAGNESIUM OIL into effected area. Even taking magnesium pill before bed helps. But the pure oil really does the trick for me. Good luck

I had severe nighttime cramps & spasms post tkr & thank goodness I was told to try Theraworx. I used the spray foam and found sufficient relief to allow me to sleep. It was definitely a lifesaver.
Good luck

I’m 13 months post tkr & in the early post op had foot discomfort/pain-swelling. All that has gone but recently developed pain in my toes. I think massaging with a CBD salve helped a little but generally it’s very uncomfortable. Has anyone had to treat something like this?
