Controlling Tinnitus: What works for you?

Posted by scottk @scottk, Jul 1, 2019

Hello: Has anyone on this site had any luck with controlling tinnitus? I see certain things advertised but always sceptical. Any thoughts/ideas?

@willows

I am a tinnitus sufferer and endure it 24 hrs a day. I have had two shots for Covid and two boosters all Phizer with no aggravation of my tinnitus.

Are many people still finding tinnitus (onset, acceleration and aggravation) from the mRNA vaccine for covid-19?

Also if it's an inflammatory response to the mRNA vaccine are you finding that the symptoms resolving over time?

Thank you!

After second Moderna shot, H and T both worsened dramatically. It has not lessened with time. Wish I had never had the Moderna. Life is forever changed for the worse.

I am so sorry to hear that, just terrible. "H" stands for hearing? Moderna was a lot stronger than Phizer. Wonder why it has not calmed down a bit.. I really hope that it eventually settles down and improves for you. I am having a T flare up right now and know how distressing it can be. Did you refrain from a booster then? Seems understandable to hold off.

Have you know others that experienced this? Seems like a lot of adverse side effects came about more after second shot for people?

I also have an auto immune skin condition and worry about further activating that too.

Tinnitus and other hearing loss issues are being studied by the World Health Organization. Below is a link to a recent publication on this topic.

The H stands for Hyperacusis. I’ve only had the first two Moderna vaccinations since the second one caused the increase in T and H. I have read of others with same experience. I can’t risk a booster making things worse. Life is already so altered and difficult.
It is so stressful to be so vulnerable. I am waiting for Novavax to get FDA approval and become available in Whitefish MT.

Agreed risk sound too great. Am so sorry that happened and pray that your condition improves in time. Novavax has been approved by WHO and the other entities except FDA will finally review on June 7th as it has continued to be put off. Are you aware of adverse events with protein vaccines such as T? Take good care.

The trouble with tinnitus is that you never know what will make it worse and if it does you don’t know whether the worse is permanent or temporary. So anxiety ends up being the common denominator so to speak. Same goes for hyperacusis . I understand about your fear about a booster. Everything new scares me as a result of my tinnitus, hyperacusis, and hearing loss. How I managed screw up my courage and have 4 Pfizer shots is simply beyond me.

I take 2 in the morning on an empty stomach with a glass of water, and one sometime later in the day.

I read in a few places (including pubmed) that people have taken 3,000mg a day with no noticeable side effects. I could go more, but I wanted to be conservative.

I've been doing this for a couple of years now, and since I found this thread, I have noticed that most days are just the softest hiss, some days are quiet, and I've had no actual ringing days. But like I said, my tinnitus has always been variable. But before the Taurine, they have never been this quiet.

It worked very gradually for me and the longer I'm on it, the better it is working.

I'm used to ignoring it, so every time I read this thread, I stop to listen. Today the left ear is completely quiet and the right ear has the slightest hiss. I need a quiet room to hear the hiss.

Still working.

It hasn't completely cured it, but it's about 90% better.

Often my ears are completely quiet, sometimes a little hiss, but never the constant high pitched tone I used to have.

There are times when they still ring. For some reason, if I get up in the middle of the night to urinate, they are often ringing but gone by morning. Also sometimes when the weather is very disturbed, they will ring a little.

But even when they do ring, it's never as extreme as they used to be.

For me, it works. For others? I have no idea.

Of course, the disclaimer is that I am not dispensing medical advice here. From my research, it seems safe, and my doc thinks it's OK for me. Check with yours.
