West Nile Virus with Encephalitis

In order to connect you with other members would you tell me a bit more? Have you been diagnosed with the West Nile virus and/or what kinds of symptoms are you experiencing?

My husband, age 79, is the one with the virus. He has always been pretty healthy. Only on BP meds. He was admitted to the hospital on 10/10/21. Then admitted to ICU 10/12/21. He was put on ventilator 10/12/21 and still on it with oxygen at 40%. Unresponsive, until this morning he
opened his eyes wide open. They are giving him fentanyl to lower is heart rate. Quite concerned. Thank you for info.

9-3-2021 I became really ill with (confusion), breathing issues, severe headaches and fever. I was taken to Christus Spohn hospital via ambulance, a DO Dr. on duty at the hospital was very impatient and became upset that I was unable to answer his questions due to my condition. He falsified several details on the medical report, which lead to me being transferred to their psychiatric hospital where I was disregarded and ignored for three days. On the third day an out of state lab and the Texas Health Department contacted the hospital and notified them that I was +Positive+ for West Nile Virus and at that point I was finally treated like a human being, but by then I just wanted to get as far away from any medical personnel as possible due to the dramatic experience. It took every bit of six months for the pain and symptoms to finally subside. Any little issue that your body has, that you have been able to manage and cope with becomes a "VERY BIG ISSUE", it's like the virus attacks you where your weakest.

Thank you for sharing your horrible experience. It took me 1 year to get diagnosed with California Serogroup Virus which caused encephalitis. I believe West Nile is one of the viruses in this group but I tested negative. I have constant internal arm trembling which I cannot find a treatment for. Have you returned to your normal self? How were you treated and how long did it take you to get better?

My husband was just diagnosed with West Nile Virus after 9 days in the hospital. His right arm is paralyzed, but has feeling and reflex response. His vocal chords on the right side and his swallowing have been affected. He can stand and has movement in both legs and his left arm, although noticeably weaker than normal. The Drs. tell us that myeltis is present. Does that mean that there is no hope of recovering movement in his right arm? My other greatest fear is that symptoms will continue to worsen. He showed improvement yesterday with physical therapy.
