TKR caused orthopedic issues: Can't bear to have it redone

Posted by sarahleemoore62 @sarahleemoore62, Apr 22, 2022

I had a tkr 18 months ago and have been in so much pain. My hips are now uneven, my pelvis and turned and my lower back is shaped like an S. My leg feels like it is being crushed down to my foot. I have been to 4-orthopedics and just had one doctor tell that the tibia slop was put in wrong. I need to have this taken out and start over now.
I have been so depress because I am an active person and can barely stand up let a lone walk.
Thank you for listening.

Hi @sarahleemoore62,
I was about to move your question to this existing discussion:
- Leg length difference after TKR! What can be done? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/1-6-inch-leg-length-difference-after-tkr/?pg=4#comment-665844

But I notice that you have already posted there a few months ago and got a lot of support and tips from fellow members, like @bonniethompson1234 @sueinmn @sickofbeinsick1 @dmk @morkat @jenniferhunter and others.

I'm sensing that at this point in time, you know what has to be done, but you're looking for moral support to help get you there. Am I right?

It must be a punch in the gut to hear that surgery has to be redone. Not to mention scary to put your trust in a surgeon again. Do you have confidence in the surgeon who said revision was necessary?

Thank you for responding. I am very scared and I 've gone to 3-orthopetics. The one I would love to do the knee revision, is so busy, I can't get in until 11/24 of this year. I am so active and I just feel handicap now. I don't want to wait until November, because of the pain I'm in.

I can understand how you feel. I am so sorry you've had such a bad time after your operation. I am moving into a hip replacement operation after many years of putting it off because I was scared. Either that it wouldn't work, or that the surgeon wouldn't be good. I'm still not happy about having it, I know there are chances to be taken, but the pain is so bad that I cannot function much. I'm not looking forward to rehab. But -- all I can do is hope and pray I get the right person to do the job. I like him so far but I'm not totally satisfied with his office. However, he has a fabulous reputation. There aren't too many choices except to look for the best treatment you can get. (After the hip replacement I will probably get a knee replacement, another thing I've been putting off. Again - the only thing I'm looking forward to in these operations is that my ability to move is better with much less pain.)

I have know a lot of people with good results with hip replacements. My sister had one and she doesn't regret it at all. I wish you the best and yes to no more pain.
