Celiac Antibodies TTG, IGA and DGP IGA: What does it mean?
I recently got tested for celiac disease but I am not sure what the results mean. Anyone have an idea my doctor was a bit unclear.

Absolutely. But it is not always done. You are right: blood tests are used too often for a final diagnosis.
I would add that @sue225's post is especially important for someone with a negative blood test.
My daughter has lived with assumed celiac for years now. She went gluten free before any diagnostic tests. She has to be back on gluten for 6 months for diagnosis. GI docs have tried twice to get her back on gluten, believe it or not, and she gets so sick with the first exposure that they call it off. So she will never be diagnosed. She initially felt she needed the diagnosis for full commitment to being as careful as needed with celiac, but that didn't last long. She is very very careful.
If you have not been off gluten, I would make every effort to get fully tested and that would include the biopsy as @sue225 wrote.
@pwgrimes Sounds like you’re having a very difficult time! I’m so sorry. Has your primary care doctor been able to help at all, like referring you to the Celiac Clinic? A doctor to doctor approach might work better. Have you checked major medical centers in your part of the state? You can look for a gastroenterologist.
Do you think you could ask your doctor to call the clinic? And let me know what happens!
There is no celiac doctor for over 100 miles. Over 10 years All 6 gastroenterologists I have seen did colonoscopies and never mentioned celiac, just IBS, and said I cannot help you. I got the celiac test from my antidepressant doctor 2 years ago and am on strict GF diet. I have been to UC Davis same thing. The Chico Celiac Clinic will not contact me after 2 requests. I am is continual searing pain, but the colorectal doc did not call for over 7 weeks from my drs refer. She called again and I have an appointment in 3 weeks. I don’t know how I can wait. We only have one Colorectal Dr.. This pain is in my sphincter muscles and rectum. The inner sphincter is not working right and every 15 minutes let’s out diarrhea. Have tried all OTC analgesics. Did get some Mesalamine suppositories for a possible Hemorrhoid's, but not working. No one cares I am in such pain and can’t go on.
@pwgrimes, it sounds like you are a good advocate for your health. It is frustrating when access to care is limited and phone calls don't get returned. Good for you for persisting and getting an appointment with the colorectal doctor in 3 weeks.
I realize that 3 weeks is a long time, especially when you're in such pain. Did you ask to be put on the wait list in case of cancellation?
This is also a good time to start a diary of your symptoms and list of questions to ask. Use this time to be proactice. I use a diary of symptoms to help do the detective work before seeing a doctor. I take note of a symptom, for example, diarrhea, when did it happen, how severe, for how long and any possible triggers, food or drink you consumed, or activities you were doing at the time. Do the same thing for pain or any other symptoms you may be having. Is this something you might be able to do?
I am trying to get by. It is very difficult when the pain is continual. I am having to keep the stool in a liquid form to come out. If it is hard it kills me more and hurts the rectum sphincter muscle more. There is a raw wound there I can feel and it just keeps throbbing with every breath.
My digestive system is not working right because of celiac. So I can’t follow advice for a person with normal function. Thank you for your response. I am also under a lot of stress from my husband that does not help. He is very insensitive.
Hello @pwgrimes
I've been following your discussion regarding Celiac Disease and other health issues. In your most recent post, you referred to some stresses at home as well. We know that relationship stresses can make physical problems worse. Do you have any understanding of your husband's insensitivity? Is it an age-related personality problem or perhaps a long-standing relationship problem?
If you are in a position to seek counseling, I think this might be very beneficial. If you are not in the position to meet with a professional counselor, could you talk with a pastor or priest or perhaps an insightful, non-judgmental friend who could listen to you?
