Hypothyroidism along with epilepsy

Posted by jaderm @jaderm, Jan 11, 2022

Hello. I’m not sure if anyone has experienced hypothyroidism and epilepsy but I’ve had epilepsy for 20 years barely diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I’m on 75mg generic synthroid. I can’t get a straight answer from my obgyn if levels are good. My epileptolgist is Great at treating my epilepsy but doesn’t believe hormones play a role as I have now started to faint with seizures. I’m either freezing all the time of hot. Periods come at different times of the month. I’ve been waiting for a referral to a endocrinologist with no luck. I’ve done so much research I wish I could just go to the Mayo Clinic if it were only that easy. I live in New Mexico . Any info would be greatly appreciated

Hello, so I was just diagnosed with hashimotis. What kinda Dr should I see? Some say a functional Dr. Then others say a endocrinologist. I also have epilepsy and have VNS. Implant. I have had it going on 7 years. I’ve read that thyroid is very close to the vegus nerve. Also has anyone had success with taking natural iodine for thyroid problems?

Jade, I agree with @upartist that you may wish to consult with an endocrinologist. You may wish to get a referral from your neurologist.

With the new diagnosis of Hashimoto's disease, I thought you might be interested in joining these discussions:

Which specialist diagnosed you with Hashimoto's? What are your next steps?

Thank you for reaching out. At the moment that’s what I’m trying to do is get a referral from my Nero when I found out I was hypothyroidism. They said the one that takes my insurance is 8 months out but never heard anything back. Which is surprising cause I love my Nero. At this point I’m willing to private pay but I need a referral. My obgyn is the one who caught my hashmostis
