Proctitis/ulcerative Colitis

Posted by medicaloffice @medicaloffice, Mar 24, 2022

Hi there.

Just new to these groups I find them very informative. My 18 year old son was just Dx with Ulcerative Colitis he was sent home day of colonoscopy with a pamphlet about proctitis which is inflammation of rectum and a Rx For Salfolak suppositories to take BID with no direction on for how long. Given his age of 18 dr won’t talk to me just to him had a less than two minute conversation with him and said you have something that’s life long and take this medication long term. ?? Is this rest of life everyday until he”s elderly? Anyone else have colitis and doing treatment I have such lack of communication appreciate any helpful advice. He is also complaining of the suppository leaking out after any tips for this ?

Hi @medicaloffice and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Sorry to hear about your son and his condition of UC and Proctitis.
A couple of discussions you might like to look at:

Are you able to ask your son if you can accompany him in the visit with the doctor when he does his follow up?

Thank you so much for your response . The problem with the Follow up is it happened already and it was a phone follow up due to pandemic he is away at university and the dr refuses to talk to me
Due to his age. Apparently he k it does the scopes and no further follow up so left in dark. I guess it will fall on family dr lap. Problem is family dr that is not their specialty
