Plantar Fasciitis: How did you get rid of it?

Posted by peggyn @peggyn, Jun 22, 2019

I don't know if this is where this should be posted, but I have a few questions. Almost seems like it goes hand and hand with neuropathy.

Have you had it and how did you get rid of it. I have done 2 injections.. I use ice and ice bottle almost nightly, I've massaged, I've purchased special shoes, and I've worn compression sleeves, plus I've done the night splint.. It just won't go away. I know it's because of the atrophy on that calf.
If you've had it please share what worked for you to get rid of it.

Jillie, what kind of pain do you have? What activity have you been doing lately?

@jilliemo12345 Hi Jillian. I had severe Plantar Faciitis in both feet several years ago and tried so many things - physio , massage, chiropractor, etc. I finally went to a podiatrist and had computerized testing done as I walked on the test mat, and custom orthotics were made for me based on those results. I had immediate relief as I transferred my orthotics to each pair of shoes I wore. The price might scare you, but it's worth every penny! No surgery needed, no expensive physio, no chiropractor or massage therapist anymore. I resumed my love for hiking and I've never had that problem since. Good luck. Warm regards, Laurie

Hi @jilliemo12345, custom orthotics only fit into my walking shoes so I used arch supports in my work shoes - usually a low heel during the day. At night, I used Thermoskin PlantarFXT to stretch the Plantar Fascia. I stopped using them a couple of years ago, but just resumed use because I felt some pain in my heel. It's resolved, but I am still using them as I don't what a recurrence. I hope this helps.

I had plantar fasciitis twice majorly. First time sent to pt who used electrodes with electricity which got rid of 50% of pain then used ultrasound to get rid of rest of pain. Was told not to use a treadmill anymore, but to use elliptical. Also told to wear inserts and only wears shoes with arch support and not to go barefoot. About 3 years later came back with a vengeance because I was going barefoot and wearing flip flops. Back to pt where they deep tissue massaged and tore the fascia which got rid of it all. Very painful but was worth it. Now very careful to wear inserts, and arch support shoes. So far so good

Thank you, I don’t have that condition but the back of my heel where the tendon attaches seems to tighten up when I am sitting or after sleeping. It acts like Plantar F. as it is painful for a few steps then is reoccurring every time I’ve been sitting. The back of my heel is swollen.
I cannot wear a closed shoe, wearing clogs only.
Any thoughts appreciated.

I was wondering if other RA patients have experienced this.
Comments appreciated. Jilly

I had plantar fascists 30 years ago while teaching high school chemistry. I tried everything available at the time. I had a very knowledgeable and experienced doctor who suggested micro surgery. I had it done and it has never come back. Best decision i ever made.

Have you tried the usual anti-inflammatory remedies - like applying ice, elevating your feet, Would you be able to go to a physical therapist for some stretches? If your foot does not respond well to ice, heat may be better.

I had very painful plantar fasciitis, had several cortisone injections which worked for a long time. What helped me the most was using stretch bands around the instep & moving my foot up and down—at first, 10 or 15 times, then gradually increasing the number. So easy! Sit in a chair and watch tv while stretching. A recliner makes it even easier.
