Whoops, SORRY... I intended to ask a question about UTI. Let me try again!! Does anybody have experience with a UTI infection that is not completely cured after 3 rounds of antibiotics ? Symptoms are improved and culture tests also show better results, but mild discomfort and mild urgency are still there. I'm 80 years old and never had a UTI before. Also throughout my ilfe, I have taken very, very few antibiotics. Other than controlled AFIB my health is good.

@sealover101 Yes, I have had a UTI that did not clear up after rounds of antibiotics. This was 25 years ago. It turned out it was a kidney infection due to a large kidney stone lodged in the upper part of my left kidney. That was discovered when I developed a fever and lower back pain and was referred for an ultrasound. Once the kidney stone was removed through surgery I've had nothing like that again. I have had a few UTIs since then but these clear up with one round of antibiotics.

After that kidney stone episode I had regular urine cultures for a few years. What does your doctor say about your symptoms?

I had a years-long battle with UTIs, The gynecologist would prescribe antibiotics, and it would clear up for a week or so and come back. Finally, a urologist put me on Bactrim. I stayed on it for 6 years. It cured my UTIs, over time, but is believed to be the cause of my CKD Stage 3a.

I’ve had this problem for over 5 years as an elderly pst-menopausal woman with DM well controlled. I had a complete hysterectomy at age 34 so estrogen lacking. Lots of things add up to chronic UTI that can become resistant which I am right now to oral meds. So I’m on a PICC line IV and fingers crossed it works like the one 2 years ago. I did two weeks of some wicked antibiotics IV and then I was able to take macrobid again until I became resistant. The sad part of this is it’s a worldwide problem with not many answers. I almost flew to the country of Georgia where they still do phage therapy. Now there’s something to Google! Anyway hang in there and find the best urologist in your area. Some my problem is with a tiny kidney stone. They hold infection.

Yes i just told my story. I had to take 4 rounds of antibiotics. The severe pain is gone but i am experiencing minor cystitis symptoms that will be treated with another week of antibiotics
I also had a GFR of 53 (for the first time ever) and i wonder if that could trigger more UTI's .

I have had an UTI for 8 months and was prescribed 9 different antibiotics during this time. Changed urologist and he is checking for cancer. Whatever it is I just want it gone.

I have had the same infection for nine months. I had 9 antibiotics in a 6 month span. I still have the same infection, but a new urologist.

I hear you! Currently after many doses of various antibiotics, I no longer have UTI infections, but still have the discomfort and urgency you describe. Doctors have recommended estrogen cream, vitamin C, mannose-D, cranberry, probiotics and frankly my problem did not go away.
Latest Rx is myrbetriq (mirabegron) which is ok (maybe 80% comfort ). Reducing/eliminating caffeine and alcohol has helped somewhat. The latest solution I researched was alkaline water with 9.5pH. I am pleasantly surprised with this one as feel better. Good luck! I have had all the tests, cystoscopy, CT scan of urinary tract, and kidney biopsy- no abnormalities. Try and water and I am going for a 3rd opinion with a uro-gyn again.
