GI Disorder and Internal Shaking

Posted by gigiraj @gigiraj, Feb 15, 2019

Hi all. I'm a 21 year old South Asian female and I have been having GI issues for about five years--mainly along the lines of constipation. I do have bowel movements every day but it takes a long time & I am rarely fully cleared out. These GI issues are always accompanied by other health issues (gas, pressure in head, etc). Recently, some scary new conditions have manifested: In the past few weeks, there have been times where my heart starts beating wildly and very fast. Sometimes, when I'm tired and constipated, my entire body feels like its vibrating internally; the shakes aren't visible but it feels like all my muscles are quivering. At this point, I feel a constant shaking/quivering within my body, especially in my heart cavity.

I have had TWO EKG's and both came back normal. All lab tests for diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, etc came back within normal limits. I am very concerned about this internal shaking. My dad says he found something about how GI disorders can impact muscoskeletal system and since the heart is a muscle, it's contracting and being affected. But I wanted to know if anyone here can help!!!!!!! If anyone knows anything at all please please please let me know!!!!!

Hi there, I'm so sorry to hear that you're experiencing this! It's very stressful. I'm honestly not sure what to say because on one hand, I've found a lot of relief simply by moving to a less stressful environment. I know it's really discouraging to hear from doctors that one's condition is "just anxiety" but in my case, it looks like that was genuinely the case.

On the other hand, so many people across many different situations are experiencing something similar. I have not solved my GI issues and feel terrible a lot of days - I still sometimes get angina (sharp pains in chest), bone/muscle pains, ear weirdness, etc. If a doctor gives me an update, I will update everyone. Sorry to see so many people experiencing something like this.

Hi everyone. Well I'm here because I have been having the same internal tremors. Mostly at night but also starting throughout the day. Because I have been diagnosed in my early years with anxiety this is where the doctors always go to. I am on omeprazole because originally I would wake up with Tremor's just in my stomach. That all calmed down but with the stress if this past month or so I'm waking up with the racing heart which goes into sweating momentously and the shakes. It's starting throughout the day and I mostly feel shaky in my legs. When I sit down for the day, usually after dinner it starts. I'm feeling like it's really starting to affect my whole life in general because I hate this feeling and resisting it saved making it worse. I've had this problem on and off. All my tests have come out fine also accept for being diagnosed with SVT which isn't the cause. I used to think it was constant overstimulation and then my nerves take forever to get. I would appreciate any suggestions for calming this down. I have been put on xanax. I'm not usually a pill taker, but I'm desperate to feel normal! Even a turn over in bed will start these symptoms while asleep.

Maybe try Propranolol 10mg.. It seems to work for me except a few times when I get stressed?

Hi! I’m also experiencing internal tremors all day and they keep me up at night. I have Afib and I’m on a beta blocker for that. My gastroenterologist has me on an anti spasmodic drug . Nothing helps. If you find out about some type of relief, please let me know. Thank you.

Hi I am 69 years old had my galllbladder removed about 16 months ago. I was diagnosed with IBS many many years ago and have suffered with diiarrhoea for years. The surgeon told me it was one of the worst infected galllbladdder he has seen. Since then I have suffered tremours in my tummy nearly all the time.I dont notice it so much during the day as i am doing things but in bed i notice it and it really worries me in case I have a serious problem. I live on my own and have no family. I am so fed up with diarrhoea as it is stoppingme going places. Nothing seems to help the diarrhoea other tham Immodium plus . I wondered if the tremours in my stomache are due to the infection from the gallbladder spreading to my syomache I did have about three weeks after having my gallbladder removed when I didnt have diarrhoea and I felt like a new woman, I wish the diarrhoea would stop and I could have a normal life and live a bit.

I’m so sorry you are going thru this too. I also have IBS-D . Recently I’ve been taking Metamucil crackers. It seems to be helping me. I’m also on a anti spasmodic drug to help with the internal tremors form the last 2 weeks. I’m still having the tremors all day and night. I had my gallbladder remove 20 yrs ago. Reading your article sounds like what i go thru.

Hi, I recently started having an internal tremor that is not visible. It happens at rest primarily like after I have been moving and stop or when I lie down. Interestingly I have been extremely constipated for some time and started taking fiber recently. I noticed the tremor when the Constipation cleared up and even after a bowel movement. I have stopped taking hydrocychloriquine as of last week and Emgality migraine shot. In case these are contributing.
Neither of these drugs will be out of my system for at least a month. Also I am taking Hormone replacement and my progesterone is high, my estrogen and testosterone may be a bit too. I am going to lower these as well. I notice it at night 3 hours after I take the progesterone and sometimes I wake up feeling like I’m going to throw up and shaking inside. However I notice it during the day too so I’m confused.
Any recent info on internal tremors and GI system?

Hi @crayola1 and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Glad you decided to join the group! You will see that I moved your post to a long standing discussion about GI disorders with internal shaking. There are lots of members talking about this and I think you would really benefit from reading their posts.
Have you consulted with a physician regarding this yet?

Hello,

I am dealing with the EXACT same thing after Covid. This has been week number 6, though my symptoms seem to be improving as I am on a beta blocker. I am curious, 2 years later, did you ever receive a formal diagnosis? Thank you so much for sharing your story.

I also experience internal vibrations that had no apparent cause except thinking I have gone off the deepend until I read everybodys comments. I never even considered that it could be associated with my digestive issues and they both started about the same time now that I think about it. Thanks everyone for your input its a relief to know im not crazy, which was becoming very upsetting for me. My lower body vibrates and it feels like the floor is vibrating and my side of the bed and I can hear the vibrations( or I think I can) but they arent real to anyone else. To me it feels like the furnace kicked on and is running when I feel the vibrations. Has anyone figured out a way to stop them when they happen?

I've had them since my bloating started a few years ago, slowly getting worse. Mine are in my trunk and abdomen. My internist just looks puzzled when I mention them and the gastroenterologist says to just take otc laxatives for my "obstipation" - both responses meaning they don't know. Yours is connected with diarrhea - not usually my issue unless I overdo the laxatives.
I have tried to pay more attention to mine and find they sometimes just stop but for no reason I can determine. But they are mostly present so I have tried to ignore them like tinnitus or chronic pain or whatever has unfortunately become ongoing.
I think this group is to help one another. We may be the only "someones". Just keep looking for help.
