Depending on your age I would work through it. Your dose was very small. Call your pharmacist and see what he recommends.
I have not posted anything here for nearly a month. However, I am more and more wanting to get off Klonopin after 6 straight years of taking it at a low dose. I have had no real success at tapering and ended up relapsing ( going right back on the medication) without my Doctor even knowing about it. My Doctor scolded me the last time I was in his office and asked him please, if I could taper. I do not have any health insurance coverage and will have to pay out of pocket for this medication. I find it is making me feel more depressed but my Doctor insists I keep taking it because I get such bad anxiety attacks. Anxiety can throw my life off balance and distort my thinking. I still want to taper! Leah09
Thank you, Colleen for such kind words. I am in Pain Management and see a pain Doctor but he doesn't want to give me anymore pain medication. I don't think that's the same thing as Pain Rehabilitation. I don't know. I am at the end of my rope. I just don't understand why I can't take new medication. I have extra pain medication but it will run out so I've been careful not to use it. I couldn't take the pain last night and took extra and this morning my heart was racing. Ugh, I can't take this pain. Have you ever heard of a person going through menopause who got palpitations and chest pain after a few days of taking new medication? I never was like this before. I would love to go to the Mayo Clinics pain Rehabilitation. I have Medicare and Medi- Cal. I wonder if they will take me. I went down 25% on my Klonopin for the last 3 nights and I felt really anxious and couldn't sleep. I think I went down too much. This morning I took.25mg. Its hard to detox now with all this pain. What do you recommend?
I have chronic imbalance issues.
My neuro put me on a “low dose” of
,25 to ,5 mgs at bedtime. I did this for almost 7 months. I asked if I would have a dependence problem and was told no
He told me to go off to try cymbalta
I was never so sick in my life. Cold turkey
I am back on klonopin but still feel like I cant walk extra dizzy shaking rapid heart beats. He told me to cut it in half in two weeks
I don’t trust this. I need a slow taper from .25. Please help. Thank you so much I can not function
Hi @giav23 and welcome to Connect! I am sorry to hear that your doctor just took you off the medication without tapering. That must have felt terrible.
I wanted to let you know that I moved your post to a recent discussion where several members are discussing tapering off of Klonopin.

Did you ask him/her if you could taper so you don't get the same withdrawal symptoms?
He said take .25 for 2 weeks
Cut it in half for 2 weeks t
Then stop
I don’t really consider this a plan
So upset
I stopped Klonopin at age 67 after 15 years of daily use for panic/depression. K made me tired all the time & I slept 12-14 hrs each night & needed stimulants to stay awake at work. The year I began stopping, I just kept lowering my daily dosage back about twice a month, literally by slivers, then going into depression for abt 4 days, then returning to normal, staying a week at normal, then dropping dose by another sliver. In Europe, they will give you pre-measured doses, but in USA you are on your own. I did see my doctor every week during the process. The world being what it is now, I am back on Klonopin, but a much lower daily dosage than before. Stay safe.
Every body has a different reaction. Stay safe.
I take 1.75mg of Clonazepam ( Klonopin ). I tapered down fro 3mg's over about 2 months. I couldn't go any further. I would suggest tapering, not old turkey.

The best option for quitting in my opinion would be using a compounding pharmacy. Of course your doctor would have to be on board with that because he’d have to write a prescription and chances are he wouldn’t be willing to write it for a slow enough taper. Another possible downside is not all insurance companies pay for compounded medicine.
I was about 30-40 when I tapered.
I'd say it's a gamble on how long to taper. It also depends on your dose, length of use, age. Some say it depends if your male or female. At the end when I chipped off pieces it probably wasn’t necessary to do that as long as I did and it was a guess as to how much I was taking a that point but it was an infinitesimal small amount.
I usually don’t have any problems going on to her coming off medication and rarely have any side effects from them. Although I went off this medication slower than what I normally would it was because I was having so many status seizures at the time and when you have epilepsy you can’t just stop your seizure medication. also I was on an extremely high dose.
I don’t know if your other illnesses or medication would interfere in anyway that’s a question you’ll have to ask your doctor.
Take care,
Jake
