I have had post operative gastroparesis for about 7 years.. I am male, now 84 years old.. Mayo MN gave me a way to cope with the associated problems.. I drink a lot of Pedialyte, drink Kefir each morning.. I can even eat celery if taken in small bites not more than 1/2" in length.. leafy things are a big problem but the stem parts of Napa cabbage or Romain work well with no problem.. for me the rate of eating anything is for the most part what causes problems.. This morning I enjoyed oatmeal with blueberries, strawberries, and almond slices.. when gaining weight not an issue but is the ongoing wish.. I can eat calories with abandon.. Ken
I wonder if this would help with severe colon motility issues. I eat no dairy, sugar or grain. I also eat baked chicken and white fish from time to time. I don’t eat anything raw either. My stomach emptying test I passed so I empty fine to next stage. It’s my colon that won’t function. I also suffer malnutrition. I’m on many prescription vitamins, high dose probiotic and b12 injections. My diet is not great but I do try. I try mixing it up as much as possible. Fiber kills me. What is mag saline and can you send that recipe again. I think I might digest applesauce, not sure about prune juice and that other item in your recipe. It could also be fine because it’s not a lot at bedtime. I stop eating at 4 every day and have breakfast 8-9am. Yes, I drown in water daily. Thanks Joanne
Mag citrate causes me to vomit for hours. That’s why I asked what mag saline was. I’ve been doing this routine, alone with so many other routines and my colon never functions on its own. I’m tired of it. Tonight I’ll take Philips milk or mag or maybe mag citrate but I will vomit for hours. I think that’s why it takes massive amounts to work because I vomit so much. I could never do this again every third day. I’ve lost a tremendous amount of weight from trying to empty my colon so often. My pcp, Gastro and natural team say 5 because of vomiting. I suffer terrible drug allergies as well. Thanks joanne
I don’t use fleet because tube hurts to insert. I buy disposable tubing to my stainless steel enema bucket. You need to think about the fact that a formed stool has not passed out of my rectum since early June 2020. I get pelvic floor PT for this.
In above, it should have been 2 tablespoons.
Eileen you could try Lahey next. They are part of Beth Israel. I’m seeing Dr. Hanley Williams in March second visit. I left Brigham and womens Gastro because they say remove entire colon so I’m out in search of someone that might disagree. My first visit went great. She a motility special well. She was up front saying I’m not sure I’ll find anything different but we shall see. That was three months ago. I wanted three more months of colonics, visceral massage, pelvic floor pt and following with a naturopathic doctor. The answer is still no. I can’t pass stool ever. If I stop laxatives nothing so I have to take them. I have no idea what she can offer but I have some ideas of my own. Keep searching..Joanne
I go to Lahey Burlington Mall rd. I worked there for 10 years, long time ago. I go to rheumatology department there. I also have GYN there. They suggested Dr. Hanley Williams in Gastro. My pcp is in Chelmsford Ma. I’d like a new one but 67 in two weeks and starting over not easy. I go to anyplace I want. I’m fortunate with my insurance, no referrals. I do so much research before I pick a specialist. What works for one person doesn’t always work for someone else. It’s hard to find the right person. I’m not giving up. Someone will figure out my colon. Joanne
I emailed you
@eileen, Omgosh. Don't you wonder where they were listed in their graduating class? They had to have been low. Can't believe it. It would be funny if they weren't hurting people. 🤔
Thanks for chiming in. I don’t have Gastroparesis. Eileen does. I passed my stomach emptying test fine. My severe constipation is because of no colon motility. I can’t move my bowels without meds. I was scheduled in Boston for total colectomy but canceled, rescheduled and canceled again. I just feel doctors have missed something and don’t look at the whole picture just my large colon. I’ve learned a lot going to all naturopathic doctors but I’m not any better. It is very disappointing and I’m back to a newer motility Gastro doc this month. I have some testing suggestions but it’s never easy convincing them. Since I have been on Mayo blog for a while now it just amazes me how many suffer from what you and Eileen have and also what I have. I do think someone at some point will have some idea and I’ll try it and it will help. Blessings, Joanne
Well you need to be your own advocate these days. I’ve said it here a year ago that I approach my doctors with the attitude they get paid by you, so essentially they work for you. Suggest it and if the doctor rejects your desire to have the test, ask why. I’m sure with what you’ve been saying here you have the right diagnostic codes for your insurance company to cover it. It seems to be standard for your situation as the sitz marker study was for me. I’m retired so I have Medicare and a very good supplement. My doctor’s don’t always agree with my suggestions so when I’m going and want a specific test I get on my computer, print the most important info that states why this test can help in diagnosing and I bring it. I’m well informed and I want my doctors to know I am. I get they are smarter than I but it doesn’t mean that I know my body best and I can list off the top of my head every drug for constipation they have tried. Miralax to me is way over prescribed especially kids and just about every colonoscopy says take the largest bottle to prepare. It has a substance called PEG 3350. It’s an osmotic laxative. Just pushes water into the colon. I get very sick from it. Their are lawsuits pending from parents about long term effects on children. I can’t understand how a 27 ounce bottle mixed in gadorade for colon prep is good for anyone. It makes no sense. We’ll be safe and think positive, not easy. Remember, your in NH so you are close to Boston Hospitals, some of the best in the world. You can always go there.
