Anyone else hitting cardio levels (on Fitbit) when doing simple tasks?
For those of you that use a Fitbit and who seem to hit cardio level when doing simple tasks like standing or cooking. (AND who do not have POTS)
Taking the advice of my PT and OT therapists, I track both zone and cardio minutes using my Fitbit watch with Premium each day. When my heart rate hits a predetermined level (for me it is 100bpm), I immediately sit down and do belly breathing. After one month of modifying my actions, I am now able to reliably control my heart rate!! And I am able do start doing more. 😁
**The minutes below are doing normal daily tasks. I have not yet begun exercise. **
I populated my zone and cardio minutes in a spreadsheet. In the last 4 weeks BOTH weekly values have gone down!!
Zone minutes from 700 per week to 574 per week
Cardio minutes from 252 per week to 143 per week!! Using my fitbit to know when to sit (when HR reaches 100), has made a LOT of difference!😁
Hoping this means my body is slowly returning to normal.

Hi Jennifer - What a wonderful thing you did by posting these helpful videos. I could not agree more that omitting pain behaviors and focus on pain are the first steps towards managing and reducing symptoms. I see you attend Mayo for post-COVID. I attended the Jacksonville Mayo Pain Rehabilitation Center and learned from Dr. Sletten. It was a true life changing experience for both myself and my family because I got my life back on track and my family got a healthier version of me back. How are you doing since attending Mayo? What has been your most productive tool for managing your symptoms?
Here is the direct link to Dr. Sletten's recently revised Central Sensitization Syndrome video which includes post-COVID and other diagnoses:
I loved the Tame the Beast video you posted. So important to understand how and what is happening to our bodies.
Hi Lucy - I'm sorry and 100% understand your frustration with symptoms appearing out of the clear blue. I used to think I was going crazy based on fluctuating symptoms in my body. It's very hard to ignore and not breath life into symptoms, but as I hope you learned from watching the videos Jennifer attached, it does you no good and just adds fuel to your fire. The goal is to quelle that fire through distraction, shifting focus, and other tools. I see you are post-COVID. Do you feel you are making slow steady progress, despite bumps in the road? I hope these videos help.
I’m a nurse by trade and I will go to the pain rehab in June. I still need help… to manage my symptoms and support my family.
Thank you, Nurse, Jenn. I am having trouble accessing the YouTube. The message I get is that it is private. I'll keep trying. The pain philosophy makes sense. I practice mediation and mindfulness and will continue to do so. I sure wish long haul patients could access the 12 week course virtually. I'd jump all over it.
I have been watching the videos and am totally fascinated by the approach. As I said in reply to Nurse Jenn, I wish there was a virtual program. To answer your question about me, depending on the day, I would reply differently about whether I have improved since my acute onset August '20. I've learned my body better and have gotten pretty good at not completely crashing. I tend to overdo when I feel pretty good - paying for it either immediately or later on. I go for slow walks of maybe 15 - 30 minutes. I religiously do my yoga/abdominal/ balance routine daily or I try to do it daily. I'm in great shape sitting and in a prone position. 🙂 I try daily to mediate and live in the good moments. Discouragement and setbacks do occur too frequently. When I get down, I try to recall that my symptoms are not as bad as some and I have survived!! I am fortunate. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the feedback, tools and companionship this website has provided. Thank you!!
Go on you tube or google and look up central sensitization. We are all in this together. This is a long road but we are not alone….
For those good and bad days, pay attention to triggers. I love Dr. Will Cole’s intuitive fasting. Also. Body love from Kelly Leveki the Longevity paradox is awesome as well.. these are all audio books. I can see that well right now so if the grammar is bad. I apologize.
I wish the best for you!!
@welchllb Lucy, thank you for sharing your routine and the success you have from it. You have such a great attitude which is half of the battle. You inspire me!
Keep on keeping on. Will you continue to post about your future progress?
Of course I will continue to report on my symptoms and hopefully, progress. Thank you for the beautiful picture and quote. I've saved it.
Fascinating! Have you noticed a diurnal pattern in your Fitbit record? Like you struggle more in the morning but the same activity does not bother you as much in the afternoon or evening?
