Costochondritis
I just wanted some more info on this for my chest pain and see if this is possibly an issue. I have a pain in upper ribs, both sides of sternum. Not intolerable but annoying. During time of pain it feels those ribs are “raised”. Any insight would be great. Thanks.

Can this pain sometime hurt middle back area and also I have the pains in my upper jaw? Not excruciating but annoying
I had this before but all of a sudden just stopped. I don't know why it did unless putting lidocaine on everyday helped. Good luck.
Lidocaine cream and Biofreeze helped me also. Thank you for all of the good information. I have been experiencing this costochondritis condition for some time and my chest pain comes and goes. I think it is important to push your doctor to do the requisite scans to rule out other conditions.
I don't know if my pain is also related to chostocondritis. For upto four months now I always have pains on my chest from center to a little bit to the left and right ( both sides). I also get the pain when I sit for long with my back relaxed for long. And whenever I stretch my sternum makes a popping sound. I also have nerve thigh pains on both legs. And a feeling as if something is stuck in my throat. I have done ECG and xray tests and they couldn't see anything wrong. I'm frustrated

I have deep pain at the top of my sternum diagnosed as costachondritis. I wonder if it is a Reaction to sternum wires since it has been off and on since open heart 10 years ago. What type of doctor should I see? Anyone had the wires removed? What were the results?

Hello @cjbrady, you may notice I moved your discussion and combined it with an existing discussion titled, "costochondritis." I did this so you could read through some of the posts made by members already discussing costochondritis and so those members would see your message as well. You bring up a good question for the members of Connect on who you should see. Is it fair to assume that a cardiologist performed your original heart surgery? At Mayo Clinic, costochondritis is treated by the pain medicine department, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/costochondritis/doctors-departments/ddc-20371181.
@cjbrady, have you talked with the provider or the department/hospital that did your open heart surgery? Have you received any guidance on potential causes?
My large left atrialmyxoma was found after a 2 month post surgical infection from a complete hysterechtomy. I was not expected to make it through the open heart surgery due to my weakened overall condition and had no cardiologist only a wonderful surgeon. I had a terrible year recovery after the surgeries and infection and was so glad to be alive I just have lived with the pain. I did have a complete heart work up year and a half ago when the pain was so bad. The hospital cardiologist diagnosed the costrachondritus at that time..... so I try to live with it but always wonder if I am reacting internally to the wires.
Does anyone suffer from Costochondritis that gets worse when they eat or drink anything? I have had every imaginable test, lost 25 lbs since September because I can't eat alot before pain starts for next 3 hrs. I even had my gallbladder removed but did not help. Very frustrated.
Hello @bfort and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Because you had interest in connecting with others who are familiar with Costochondritis, you will notice that I have moved your post into an existing discussion on this same topic to allow members such as @cjbrady @gldnrtrvrlvr and @debbydew to come back in and share more with you.
How long have you been living with these symptoms?
I have been dealing with this for over 3 yrs but approximately 7 months ago it got worse. Its also combined with some type of gastro issue especially when I eat or drink. I have had every test imaginable, but they can't find anything. I've don't want to eat because the pain after eating last for hours.
