I was diagnosed with PMR last September. I was put on prednisone, which is the usual treatment. I've had osteopenia (at one time diagnosed as osteoporosis, so I guess I've actually improved) for years. I've taken Evista, Actonel, and Fosamax over many (too many) years. The doctors were careless and allowed me to continue too long. I took myself off the medication. Now that I'm on prednisone, both my primary doctor and my rheumatologist are pushing me to go on Prolia. THey both say I'm at high risk for a fracture. The preceding conversation here does NOTHING to encourage me to go on it. I would probably never get off of it, as I've already been on so many medications over the years. I'm worried about getting an injection that lasts 6 months, and what if I have side affects? I'm having enough issues dealing with the PMR. I have an appointment with a different rheumatologist but not until April. I want to hear what she thinks. Any other ideas from those of you who have gone before??

Hi,
Don't go on Prolia. I told my endocrinologist I was stopping and he helped me by analyzing my risks of doing so. Although my numbers indicated high risk of a broken bones, he told me that over the next 10 years I have a 10% chance of a broken hip and a 25% chance of any broken bone. I will take that risk to be pain free, feel great and am able to live a normal life.
