Do you have trouble talking?

Posted by teribierman @teribierman, Feb 7, 2022

I am just now after 6 months of testing being diagnosed with MAC. I have really enjoyed reading some of y'all's stories. Somethings I can relate to. I have a couple of questions.
1. I cannot bring up sputum. I'm on a nebulizer and it helps to bring it up. But still very difficult for me.
2. Does anyone have trouble talking. Some days I can hardly get words out of my mouth and others I can almost get a sentence put together.

I also can not bring up sputum at all. When I told ID doctor he said some people just can’t and it was okay to swallow it. When I told him I keep trying he said I was doing more harm to myself by trying to force it up. I have developed a cracking voice which I never had before.Assuming it must be from the bronchietasis. I have listened to so many different doctors who say different things that I get confused. Just trying to use common sense.

Terri, what are you using in your nebulizer? What is your routine air way clearance?

karrissy, I have the same problems when I do miss a session or not pay attention to really deep breathing the meds and holding them before breathing out. I am trying now to focus on technique and see if that helps. I use Levalbuterol, followed by 7% saline with aerobika attached to neb cup, followed budesonide. and then use the Smart vest. I also do a lot of nasal rinse and salt water gargles and the active breathing following the nebulizer and smart. vest. It is taking a BIG JUNK out of my day but it helps with getting deep breaths in and prevents some of the throat clearing and crackling voice.
WOULD LIKE SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO SHORTEN THE TIME INVOLVED.

terribierman I have tried 3% saline and it is like doing nothing. 7% saline will thin and help me to cough up mucus.

I have a hard time coughing up stuff too, I'm using 7% saline and albuterol with Aerobika...but i think the most helpful is learning the Huff cough and deep diaphramatic breathing ... I've watched many YouTube videos on how to do this trying to figure it out. I havent found any problems with talking other than constantly clearing my throat which gets annoying
